Premier League (Official Thread)

Villa are making a living off of winning every game 1-0 or 2-1 with a penalty. Either way they are still in the mix of things for Champions Leauge qualification however, there are still many games left to play.

I did not know that Man U have had a record 11 consecutive clean sheets, that is amazing and good looking to find that stat. It's crazy to me that they've been able to move to the top even with the vast arrays of injuries that have plagued this team in the last month.

And Liverpool pisses away another victory...the heat on Benitez has to be lava like at this point.

Chelsea jump into 2nd place on Goal Differential after beating Middlesbrough with 2 goals from Salomon Kalou. Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw after an 83rd minute penalty from Mido and drop 2 pts behind Man U for 1st place with 1 more game played. Arsenal lose more ground on Aston Villa for 4th after van Persie had to rescue a draw for the Gunners with a superb 90th minute half-volley.

It is amazing that they can piece it together at the back and yet other teams can't score. It is looking good for United to be five points up in 2 more weeks. That will make it tough for the rest to make it up as they all have to travel to Old Trafford.

As I always say, I never worry about Liverpool mounting a real challenge for the title because they always seem to go through 5 to 10 games where they blow 8 to 10 points. I was hoping to be wrong about them this year, but it looks like I am right about them again. I blame it on the players and on Rafa too.

4 straight draws definitely didn't help Liverpool's chances. But you have to think Man U are the favorites at this point. Who knows what Chelsea team you're going to see each week because they have been dreadfully inconsistent in the last month or so. Liverpool is a team I just can't get a handle on whatsoever. They had every chance in the world to increase there lead at the top and failed to do so on numerous occassions.

Liverpool have 3 main problems that I can see. They have had them for longer than I care to remember.

1. Lack of true depth - After Alonso and Gerrard who do you play in the center of midfield? Mascherano or Levia. Levia is dreadful and Mascherano is prone to leaving the field early and playing down to the opposition's level. If you don't control the center of midfield you can't control the game.

2. They have an aging back 4. Hyypia is old. No to ways around that one. Carragher has seen his best days go by him. Skrtel isn't impressive. Arebola is usually in the physio's room getting treatment. Agger may become a great player. Aurelio is so off the map I've seen him play once, so no way to make a decision.

3. Their manager reminds me of another former Prem manager that always had underacheiving teams. Claudio Raineri. What do they have in common? They tinker with their starting lineup far too much. Have your core players, rotate when you have to rest people. Other than that, play the same people consistently.

Great assesment to say the least and you have to believe Rafa is under heavy pressure right now. Big weekend ahead with Man U Everton tommorow right after noon and Liverpool Chelsea on sunday which could be a make or break game for both teams.

In my mind - this is the most serious problem. The team can score in bunches but hasn't invested in proper defenders in years. The prep teams are similar - loaded with young forwards and midfielders but middle of the road defenders.

I'm afraid I don't know much about the role of Rafa vs. the management team. I'm assuming player acquisition and budgets are out of his hands - but he has to be expressing his need for quality in the back lines....ya know?

Man U go 5 pts clear in first place with a game in hand after beating Everton 1-0 on a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty. Man U haven't conceded a premier league goal in an astonishing 1,104 minutes of play which is now the English record. Even with a vast array of injuries this team looks like they will once again take home the premier league crown.

Indeed it is. Liverpool Chelsea live from Anfield at 11 am tommorow.

Chelsea leave it late. They give up 2 to Torres in the last 5 minutes. Liverpool are still 2 back of United having played one more game. Chelsea, well they better find a way to snap out of it and fast. Aston Villa are finding ways to win and they are only ahead on goal difference. United are in the lead now on goal difference so it isn't looking very good for the rest of the league right now.

Robbie Keane is headed back to White Hart Lane after Liverpool and Tottenham have agreed to a transfer fee. How many players left Tottenham last summer only to come back in January ?

Looks like Chelsea are trying to get Ricardo Quaresma from Inter and who knows if Arsenal will land Arshavin, that saga has been going on for far to long as Zenit are asking for more money than the Gunners are willing to pay.
