Anyone have an idea how to acquire criminal records or court records online...preferably free?


I have zero experience and don't want to waste money....

The records/court transcript I'm looking for is in Ohio if it matters...
 
Go to the county website for whatever county you think the guy or gal has a record in.


From there find the clerk of courts. Go to that site and see if you can find a way to search. COunty sites will work for felonies, if you are looking for misdemeanors, you'll need to do essentially the same thing, but with the appropriate city/municipal court website (which may not exist)

All this intel should be free.

Although, you won't be able to get a transcript on line, I don't think. In Ohio, you can be charged "A reasonable fee" (about 5 cents) for copies.

So, what I'm saying is, the info that a guy is guilty of a crime, is available and free, but pages upon pages of transcripts will need to be paid for, in all liklihood..

Smaller counties may not be on line, I might add.

I need a Federal case transcript from 1996 or 97. BkB gave me the CoC # to the Federal Courthouse in Cbus so I will probably need to use that option.

Any other ideas though?

I was talking more along the lines of helping you find the sites. I work with county auditors and engineers usually and have very little experience accessing courts sites but know how to get to some of them. What is a CoC#? Do you know what county this crime happened in?

You can PM me if you want me to help you research this a little farther.
