Can you do 6 pull-ups?

Just to be clear, this is not a continuation to the "How tall are you?" discussion. I ask this pull-up question because we have to do a "fit to fight" challenge in our Brigade. There are 4 events, and the pull-up event seems to be pretty tough for a lot of my guys. I think it's something that you have to become conditioned specifically for. Pull-ups are a part of Marine culture, but not ours. The other four events aren't that bad.

Event #1 is the APFT with a unit average of 250 points; NO EXTENDED SCALE will be used for the total unit score and the unit must have 95% pass the test. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Event #2 is the unit four mile run event with 95% of your Soldiers completing the run in 36 minutes or less; the four mile run does not have to be a formation run, but all Soldiers must start together, at the same time.

Event #3 will be the unit 9 mile foot-march with a 35 pound rucksack and 95% of your Soldiers must complete the march in two hours and fifteen minutes or less.

Event #4 is the pull-up event; this event requirement is six pull-ups per Soldier multiplied by the number of Soldiers present for the test. The score on this event is cumulative (ie. not every Soldier needs to do 6 pull-ups, however the total number of pull-ups must be equal to or more than an average of 6 per Soldier). Pull-ups are executed with the palms facing away from the Soldier. Soldier must clear the bar with his chin and come to a complete dead-hang. Cipping is authorized as long as the above mentioned standards are met. Each Soldier will get one attempt at the event with a grader present to count legitimate pull ups.

I went to the gym today and tried. I was able to get my head halfway above the bar on the first rep. I lowered myself slow and easy but had no chance of trying for a second rep. See the you know are old thread.
