Putting Things into Perspective

Id like to say, the loss, its not cool with me. Not one bit. Im sure alot of people are trying to be optimistic and before you read any further understand that i'm not going to be in that mindset until atleast March. I am bitter. I dont want to watch those SI championship commercials over and over and I dont want anyone working for ESPN to think theyre some super-intelligent football analyst because they jumped on the "we all hate Ohio State" bandwagon. I dont want to hear SEC superiority for another year. I dont know about the rest of you but I hate the comparisons with the buffalo bills or al gore or any number of multiple losers. Ohio State should never lose back to back bowl games. I understand its the gift and the curse here, as far as media attention and expectations, we load it on every year. With that being said, there is no rebuilding year. Its not allowed here. Not because us as fans, but because the fierce backlash from the media. Somehow it has become abhorrent to commend the national runner up. Even before the game, media brought up a split title. It kills me that THE program is taking a PR beating. Not only are we losing respect but we're getting treated like ugly stepdaughters at the dance. How are we going to get invited back if we keep puking on the dress?

I actually have the opppisite effect.

Last year we were suppose to win. So when we lost the way we did I was sick to my stomach for a long, long time.

This year we were not even suppose to be there. Hell we weren't even suppose to win the Big Ten. So while I am still disappointed with the outcome, I am not sick to my stomach like last year.

I have to agree, last year I was sick to my stomach for a long time afterward simply because I expected so much. This year we were picked to finish 3rd in the B10. I am proud of what the team did. Am I disappointed, yes, but still proud of our team.

I'm reading some concerns on here about "the media" and it's opinion of OSU and the Big Ten in general. You guys need to realize that the AP Poll is made up of "the media." If you want to know how "the media" honestly thinks, look at the AP Poll.

Preseason 2007 AP Poll
#5 Michigan
#7 Wisconsin
#11 Ohio State
#17 Penn State
#44 Purdue
NR Iowa
NR Mich St
NR Indiana
NR Northwestern
NR Minnesota
NR Illinois

Final 2007 AP Poll
#5 Ohio State (11-2)
#18 Michigan (9-4)
#20 Illinois (9-4)
#24 Wisconsin (9-4)
#27 Penn State (9-4)
NR Purdue
NR Iowa
NR Mich St
NR Indiana
NR Northwestern
NR Minnesota

Here is how the other conferences did in the Final 2007 AP Poll:

SEC

#2 Georgia (11-2)
#12 Tennessee (10-4)
#13 Florida (9-4)
#15 Auburn (9-4)
#28 Kentucky (8-5)
#31 Arkansas (8-5)
#33 Miss State (8-5)

Big 12
#4 Mizzou (12-2)

#17 Cinny (10-3)
#35 South Florida (9-4)
#37 Connecticut (9-4)

I have not read a lot of the posts on here but I want to start by saying that I am not embarassed or disapointed by losing to the best team in the country. Those guys were picked by alot of the so called experts to win it all. That said I am not happy about the way we played last night because we did not make a good showing of how we usually play. That last night was not typical of Buckeye football. But if this is what we get in a rebuilding/transition year, well then their is a 117 other schools that would love to be us right now. Our future is bright and as much as everyone outside of Buckeye land hates it we will be back next year, if not in the NC then in one of the the BCS bowl games. I know that for the media we are not the sexy pick but, the system is what it is. So to end congrats LSU much love and respect; and to all the haters out there you hate us cause you aint us!!!!!!!!

I think the media will stop pouring the Haterade (tm) on OSU once the "next big thing" comes into the picture-- like Roger Clemens, for instance. :moo:

I certainly don't think Tressel's standing on some kind of trap door--this is the Big Ten, after all. And he certainly has the Wolverines by the short hairs.

I have a vague feeling (and I'm talking out my behind here) that Tressel's better with team prep when nobody's looking.

Thats the reason why the BCS didn't respect the AP cause they make stupid decisions like aren't you supposed to put the loser of the NC at second.

The only thing that gives the BCS any credibility is that the Coaches Poll agreed to name the BCS game winner to #1 on their poll, and award that winner the Coaches Trophy at the end of the game. But the Coaches Poll never agreed to name the loser of the NC game to the #2 spot. In fact, this year, they put OSU (11-2) at #4, behind #2 USC (11-2) and #3 Georgia (11-2) -- but ahead of #5 Mizzou (12-2) and #6 WV (11-2).
