QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

He did sit out a game. Akron, maybe? Was that why? (I forget.)
I think his only problem was that he'd be scrambling and he'd have a wide open run available for 10 yards, easy. Then he'd pull back and find an open receiver for 15 yards.

It was Akron, I was there for that one and McCord played so Stroud could get healthy. There was definitely a problem with his shoulder that was affecting his throwing motion, but I will say I was a little concerned in his debut in Minneapolis without having the benefit of knowing that. McCord played well enough against Akron, but I think people then realized why Stroud had the job.

I don't disagree at all on the issues re: not taking off for an easy first down when something wasn't there in the pass game...I think CJ might have tried too hard at first to show he wasn't a run-first QB. His best asset is most definitely his arm. But there were several scenarios where he could have grabbed 10 yards to move the chains and likely not even get touched by the defense. Shit, I would be telling Peyton Manning to take off and run in those situations. But as we obviously know not many fans were complaining by the end of the year and CJ has the benefit of plenty of film to look at to make those decisions next year.

You just have to wonder how the money, cars, and "lavish lifestyle" (including NIL commitments) will ultimately effect the the top college player's effort/performance in the classroom and on the field.

Thanks for sharing, such a great interview. I would ask how we keep getting so lucky on getting guys like CJ to lead our teams, but it just seems like Day knows what he is bringing in (crazy right?). Extremely well grounded kid and it was awesome to hear his background. Sky is the limit this year for CJ.
Kid was brought up the right way. Seems to have his priorities straight even w/ all the outside noise, hype, and lofty, and sometimss unfair expectations put on him to be perfect. The Buckeyes are in good hands with him directing that freight train... otherwise known as the 2022 Buckeye offense.
I love hearing him talk and be able to focus on the prize. It reminds me of how Justin Fields was able to do the same, albeit without NIL, but he was hyped his entire HS and collegiate career.

Yep, I was very concerned about Stroud in that first game. I’m happy to say I was wrong and glad he’s turned as he has. He should have a great year.

Ohio State football: C.J. Stroud says Buckeyes' offense must focus on execution to win national championship

C.J. Stroud is a big reason why so many in the media are high on Ohio State as a national championship contender entering the fall. The offense was not the reason the Buckeyes did not reach the Big Ten Championship Game for the first time since 2016, but Stroud says the unit has to be better in order for the Scarlet and Gray to win their first national title since 2014.

"I mean, for me, I just think execute," Stroud told Big Ten Network’s Howard Griffith. "I definitely think, as an offense, we execute. I mean, the only time I feel like whenever we lose is when we beat ourselves — and that's no shade to any other team, but it's just the truth, you know what I mean? And so, I definitely think whenever we play our best game and we just execute — when it's time to execute in the red zone and on third down and when it's hard — I definitely think that, if we can be tough in those moments, then we can be able to reach our goals and our dreams."
