QB Devin "Utah" Brown (Official Thread)

I like Devin a lot. This is the exact opposite of most kids anymore and in all the right ways. I'll say that I expect Howard to win the job this year, but if Devin sticks around I hope there's a big reward in it somewhere for him.
Exactly and unlike tate Martell he seems to be backing up his words rather then talking big and fleeing when things got hard

People don't realize or take into consideration the the value of an extra year under Day.

Starting for a mid-type school actually hurts vs the year of learning under Day. Why Kienholtz was so lost after an entire year in program will always confuse me, but you can't underestimate the day to day grind the QB room gets. Brown leaving doesn't make much sense to me yet...if anything, you leave with one year of eligibility remaining so you get max tutelage under Day before leaving for PT.

I agree but, as a former bench guy in basketball, I never discount the desire to get onto the field.
That's where I'm at. Guys that go to play at places like: OSU, UGA, FSU, USC, scUM, etc are used to be THE MAN. They're not used to taking back seats or watching from the sidelines. Brown is one of the best QBs to come out of Utah, but the issue is, he can't stay healthy. And the saying goes, the best ability is availability. And it's hard to trust him staying healthy all season. I like the kid, and I posted his quote because I do. But deep down I don't think he stays and I hope he can find a starting spot somewhere that can be patient with him

I don't think anyone questions this guy's heart and I hope he gets good reps/minutes this spring (practices and spring game). My question with Brown is that we haven't ever seen play that corresponds to what he says. He couldn't beat out McCord and looked clunky when he got actual reps. The Cotton Bowl was his chance to show something and, absolutely, the O-line let him down and then he had the injury, but even accounting for those factors he still didn't look like what you want from a tOSU qb (nor did Lincoln, maybe for different reasons). If he doesn't make a hard run this spring and win it outright going into or early in the fall, his shot to start will have passed. Howard will have it this year and one of the younger guys will take it after that.

I agree with most of what you said, except about his play. We've never actually seen him play much, because he's always injured. He was battling McCord in camp, and then gets injured. He's inserted in GL situations to get game reps and save McCord's legs, gets injured. He has his first real opportunity to show the Buckeye and CFB world his talents, and he gets injured mid way through the Cotton Bowl. Are we seeing a theme here?

I like the kid, he has a great leadership personality and I'm sure is a hard worker. But at a place like OSU, if you can't stay healthy there's a guy as talented as you waiting for their shot too. And Brown is a sprained wrist, ankle, etc from being possibly 4th string in this QB room.

In this video, random YouTube-dude says that Brown looked best when throwing at targets this morning in the first few minutes of the first spring practice.

If I remember off-season rules correctly, this means:
* Brown will be the starter
* Anyone who says otherwise is a great big idiot who knows nothing about football
* Howard is a complete bust who is a waste of a roster spot

I actually think Austin Ward seems like a decent, down-to-earth person. Calling him “random YouTuber” or whatever I said was about as serious as the rest of it

To be fair, Austin did say best compare to Devin in the past, not comparing to other QBs.

Part of me saying just anoint Howard and and proceed. Part of me saying Devin and Lincoln deserve as much chance. Exciting times as a bucket, especially since I only need to watch others make decisions like that.

Can we get rid of that fucking picture link already?
