QB Discussion Thread, Cotton Bowl and 2024

Tell that to some of those guys out there who will be fighting their ass off for their last win and to hopefully get a look from the NFL.
That's not my point. Yes, if guys aren't out there fighting their asses off then that's a problem. My point is, it's not a do or die game, and Day needs to be looking forward to next year more than this game.

I would rather lose the bowl game and have some film to go over for next year. This is OSU. OSU is out of the national title hunt, therefore the season is a failure. Move on to the next one.

But make no mistake. I fully expect all the players to play to win.

I'm not sold on Ward. Puts up stats, but, including fumble, turns the ball over a lot. If he were at OSU for a few years it'd be worth it, but I'd rather go with LK or Brown and see how he develops.
Well he wouldn't be carrying a shitty team on his back anymore like he was at WaSu. I think he's got some real talent.

Ward doesn't exactly bring the threat with his legs either, does he? I mean at this point is he more that a poor man's McCord?
He's not fast like Fields but he can run. Had 8 rushing TDs this year.

4 year starter and got better each year. Spent 2 years at each of his schools so he’s worked in different systems with different coaching staffs and was able to pick them up quickly.

Stats wise he throws a little better and adds a little of a rushing threat. He’s the only QB in the portal that looks like a clear upgrade from McCord.

I watched them play Texas and he was awesome, and then against okie he was still pretty damn good.

He’s only got 1 year left so it shouldn’t turn off Lincoln and he won’t turn off Air.

I don't think there is any way that Kyle leaves without being shown the door. I think this was all Day's decision.
I think Day went into the meeting saying what he knew the McCord family didn't want to hear, and that it could prompt Kyle to leave. I see a very low probability this happened overnight and I assume Day had a very good pulse on it. Obviously we are all guessing at this point, but I imagine Day and the staff watched film of The Game many times and concluded that Kyle may not be the guy, so they opened the QB battle back up. If so, I fully support that decision and if it resulted in the decision to transfer, so be it.

In any event, I doubt Day was blindsided by it or really even overly disappointed. It has been said, but I think Day was damn near ready to start Brown over McCord for real and just went with Kyle's experience. But when Brown came in, I started thinking no, Kyle is better with his accuracy and I think that was the case for this year. Either way, the gap was minimal in our QB room imo and I don't think Day is losing any sleep over the transfer.
Time for you folks making the big bucks as BP consultants to chime in...
Which of these QBs are our best options?
Me, I like Kienholz ... never heard of the portal QBs altho I did watch a WSU game
Sad that the Ewers thing happened cuz we're taking home an NC title with him this year
As one our highest paid moderators that attends several high-end happy hours, I will chime in. I favor Kienholz with his skillset and leadership...he wins games and just seems to be an all around athlete without sacrificing any accuracy or arm strength that McCord had. He just seems like a better fit for next year's team to me, but we won't know until next year.

What Brown showed this year was not at all impressive and of course I didn't want him to get injured, but after he did our offense was better off without his involvement. I will say this though, part of the issue might have been trying to give him the Tebow role and if the coaches just play him as a more traditional QB then it could be a different story. So there should be a real battle between the two and I don't think we need a top portal QB unless the staff is wowed by someone. Gabriel and Ward are both intriguing, but I am not going to rejoice if they come here like I did Fields because I think either could very well get beat out by Brown or Lincoln, and then be on the road again.
