We've seen more players lose value by staying another year than by staying. Then there's the potential for serious injury. Top 5 get you around $28M, top 20 gets you around $12M...huge difference but $12M is better than what you'd get if you fell to the second round due to a not-so-good senior year or an injury.

It's really an NFL problem (one of many, many) in how they structure guaranteed money for the top picks versus players picked lower in the draft. It should be leveled out significantly. It has been discussed a lot over the past 20 years, that, at the QB position especially, having a 2nd year of snaps makes a huge difference in career performance.

In Haskins' case, it's clear that he could benefit from staying. There's just no substitute for snaps at game speed. But from a business standpoint, it's difficult and possibly irresponsible to risk the difference in money from top to bottom of the 1st round, much less lower rounds.

Yeah, ask Cardale about that! He was seen as a slam dunk 1st round pick after the NC, returned to OSU and fell to the 4th, and is barely holding onto backup spots now. Not saying that he'd be setting the world on fire had he left after 2014, but he would've had a much bigger signing bonus, and more teams willing to give a 1st round pick the benefit of the doubt over a 4th rounder.[/

Pretty hyperbolic, don't ya think? Sam Bradford missed basically his entire last year and went #1 overall. Haskins isn't someone who relies on his legs/athleticism either or takes a beating like JT and Braxton did. Shit, even Jalylon Smith went round 2 with a career threatening injury the last game of his career and he plays LB. Unless Dwayne's arm gets amputated, he isn't going undrafted

The point is, unless OSU plans on cutting him a check under the table, being the 32nd pick in the NFL Draft is going to pay significantly more than coming back to school.

Both Bradford and Smith had several years of on-field performance under their belt before the got hurt. Dwayne has 2/3 of a season.

I think it's a different game for QBs. Big difference between top10 and top30 for them. But I find it impossible to believe he wouldn't be top10 right now... he's a pure pro passer with film showing he makes all the throws and the measurables they love.

McShay and Kiper aren't scouts or NFL front office employees -- and they would be awful at it if they were.

Bored at the airport and no polls out yet so for some stupid reason i checked ESPN's heisman watch for the 1st time this year... and doesnt disappoint.

Haskins had a nice passing line (49-for-73 for 470 yards and two touchdowns) and several big-time throws, but he didn't get nearly enough help from his teammates in the loss to Purdue. -- Adam Rittenberg

So thw heisman is a team award for Haskins and an individual award for Kyler Murray.

Dont know about anyone else, but always thought Rittenberg was a little shit with no business in sports commentary... he belongs somewhere like 538 or Browns front office during moneyball.
He's the kind of Big media bannerman that ensures Ferentz and Peppers win their participation awards. And therefore a perfect self-loathing shill for ESPN to hire a nerd that got started covering Illinois football and claim he's a fair representative while bashing the successful elements of the Conference.

He'll have a full season by the end of the year, which is what we're considering in this hypothetical. That's the same as Trubisky had.

If Dwayne is truly viewed as a bona fide 1st round pick this year, he's not risking much by coming back. Does anyone think Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning would've slid out of the first if they tore an ACL their last year?

Not saying it's a terrible idea to declare if he's projected in the late 1st round. But I think these doomsday scenarios about him coming back and losing everything are nonsensical. Probabilities should be taken into account. I think most of us would agree Dwayne has top 3 potential. That's why I don't think he should settle for the late 1st round. Just my opinion

Last year, Haskins escaped a pass rush against ttun and ran about 25 yards for almost a TD. This year, Haskins can't run, looks incredibly slow and can't move. What the hell happened. What the hell is going on at OSU. Did Marotti and Haskins both FAIL. Players are supposed to get faster, quicker, not regress into a freakin' statue. Heads gotta roll. People gotta be thrown right through the freakin wall Woody Hayes style. If Baby Haskins doesn't want to run fast then put Tate Martell into the game. Bench the stupid dumb ox. Heads gotta roll.
