Krenzel didn't start every game his senior season. The shoulder injury from the NC State game kept him out of the BGSU game, and Northwestern game. It may have been more than that, but my memory is a little fuzzy.

I was thinking that his freshman year was 99. The trauma of his QB play had erased my memory of his special teams and safety exploits.

Based on what I remember as a season ticket holder in '99, Bellisari's QB play was far from the most discouraging aspect of that season. I remember when UCLA visited, Bellisari laid a nasty block on one play (a progenitor of Zwick's nasty block in the 2005 Alamo bowl), and the student section started chanting "Bell-i-sar-i; clap-clap-clapclapclap; Bell-i-sar-i; clap-clap-clapclapclap".

Steve didn't start any games his freshman season (1998) but played in all 12 ... almost exclusively at DB and special teams. He was behind center for the Toledo game and went 3-5-0, 24 total yards. Other QBs to see action in that game? Starter Joe Germaine, Mark Garcia, Austin Moherman and Michael Wiley & Jonathan Wells each attempted a pass with Wiley completing his. Yeah, it was a 49-0 blowout.

I do believe Art was the only QB to start games all 4 season for the Bucks since Freshmen were eligible to play begining the 1972 season.

I'm positive he didn't. He came in as a safety and was such a good athlete he was a special teams kick covering demon.

He didn't even get the start in '99 until it was obvious the OL was so bad that Austin Moherman(or however you spell it) was going to get killed back there. SB was athletic enough to defend himself by scrambling and tough enough to take the big hits.

That was move in day for my first day of college. I was semi-pissed I didn't get to do the usual routine of watching with my family.......until we lost.

Well my memory is foggy, but Austin Moherman was the starter that season (Miami FL and then UCLA) before Steve took over the starting spot ... which he kept thru the rest of his career. Might have been more discouraging if Moherman was the starter I guess.

Yep, Moherman was the starter at the beginning of the season. But watch the video here with Bellisari making some plays, and the announcers saying at 8:30 "I think Ohio State found themselves a quarterback." Which turned out to be true, for a couple of years.

I'd have to disagree. He deserved most everything he got in terms of frustration with his play.

Dude threw more boneheaded INT's than any QB I can remember.

Urban legend has always been that when Tressel took over someone on the staff was overheard saying "this might be the dumbest QB I have ever seen"

I remember when the WRs had a case of the dropsies, someone speculated that it was because of the spin on the ball coming from a lefty. My response was "funny.........doesn't seem to affect the DBs much."

Yep, we "found" a quarterback. Was a rocky 3 years as I recall. Also seem to remember that Steve's reputation as a "promising young ass-kicker" made him a fan favorite and consequently had a somewhat significant role in his ascent to the starting spot. A role that many seem to regret in hind sight. May not have mattered judging on the other QBs available when he played:

he was the younger brother of a recent fan favorite and very good LB (greg). He was also a prep all american and generally regarded as a physical freak so people were excited.

Well following Joe Germaine wasn't the easiest of tasks either. Must admit that I remember saying "No, no ... don't ... don't throw that ... pic ... ugh" on several occasions at the Shoe. Anyway, he gave his all for the Bucks and I'll always love the guys that leave it all on the field.
