Bauserman moves up
Antonio Henton's suspension means freshman walk-on Joe Bauserman becomes the third-string quarterback and will travel with the team to Minnesota this weekend.
Bauserman, a Tallahassee, Fla., native, initially committed to the Buckeyes in 2004 but pursued a pro baseball career for three years.
"I think Joe's really coming along," Tressel said. "He hadn't thrown a football for three years, and the first week or so was a little different. He didn't look like a guy who threw a 90-something (mph) fastball. Once he got those experiences back there, he showed great pop in his arm."

Nice. I think he'll get a mop-up series, but that's about it. My bet is that the staff tries to get Schoenhoft most of the garbage reps.

Maybe, but it also depends on how long JT intends to keep Henton in the dog house. Keep in mind that if either Todd or Robbie become unavailable, Joe is the new #2 QB. I would think that if we're up big by halftime, Robbie would play from the second series of the third quarter (todd playing the first) through the first series of the fourth, and then let Joe get at least two series under his belt.

I think it also depends on whether they intend to keep Bauserman's red-shirt. They used Ginn in the QB position during the Alamo Bowl so that they could keep Boeckman's red-shirt. Of course, that was completely different. It was only one game they needed to do that, and Ginn was the type of player who could play in that spot.

Also, even if they lose Bauserman's red-shirt this year, the depth chart will look very similar next year. He could easily red-shirt next year, instead.

No matter how you look at it, if Bauserman plays this weekend, it would be incredible.

Having played 4 QB's in what would be the 7th game of the season, either means that you are A) Having a very good season, or B) Having a very bad season. Considering that we are "rebuilding" (to the untrained eye that is, we don't do that around here), this is a very good problem to have.

I have a question for the guys in the know.

All of the QB talk lately got me thinking.

Will we get Pryor?
Will Henton pass Boeckman and be the starter next year?
Will Robbie transfer?

Where does this leave Bauserman? Does he have any shot of seeing the field? I can't help but think he'd like to give it a try since the baseball thing didn't work out. If I remember correctly, he was a pretty sought after QB coming out of high school. Any rumblings that he could transfer?

Don't want to be too early on this one, but if Joe hops on board and proves a quality QB...I bet a million someone transfers out by the beginning of '08.

Regardless...welcome aboard officially to Joe. Hope he has a great career as an Ohio State Buckeye.

Bet it's Schoenhoft...

We have a winner, who's paying?

If Bauserman plays, he is then coutned against the 85 scholarship limit. If he doesn't, no matter how long he is here, he won't count against it. I don't think the staff would do it this year unless something drastic happens to Todd or Robbie, unless Joe surpasses them in practice.

Perhaps I missed something while skimming this thread, but how does that work? As a walk-on is he not allowed to play without being on scholarship or does it have something to do with his history as a pro athlete in baseball? Do the circumstances change for the 2008 season?
