Yes, we should call up Fickell and tell him that what he sees on a daily basis is nothing compared to a bloggers TV set.
With respect, Coach Tressel deserved a "trust the coaches" owing to his track record; not sure Coach Fickell has yet earned the same treatment.

I was very disappointed to hear and see people booing and cussing at Joe. I'll be honest, I wanted to see Braxton in there as much as the next guy. But I saw SOBER adults calling Joe this and that, booing, then cheering their asses off when he'd throw for a first down. Grow up people.
I agree with all this - bravo.

Now, let's see more Braxton.

This is Joe's "off day?" What if it isn't? What if he looked good against Akron because...gee, I don't know...it's Akron? I hope it was an off day, that's for sure. If it isn't, if this is just how he is (and I've seen nothing over the last four years to make me think otherwise), then I'm hoping to see Braxton sooner than later.

This.

Two starts and this is an off day? Has a QB even earned the right to have such a statement said about him? I hope the best for Bauserman, and I do hope this was his worst performance of the year, but defenses are going to get a lot tougher from here on out. If he cannot step up, the Braxton needs to start sooner rather than later.

I don't know that we have seen enough of Joe to know if this was a "bad day" or an average day. He was trying his best and that's all I ask of him or any other player, but the track record is limited at this point.

I do, however, question the decision to not play Miller at all given we were told both would play and the offense was not exactly lighting it up without him. There is no guarantee he would have done better, but I would have liked to have seen him get some snaps.

A win is a win, but the offense - not just Joe - is going to have to perform better next week and beyond. :osu:

Joe didn't make a big mistake today. And he was in control of the offense.
His deep throws were on target but Smith couldn't separate from the DB.
He's not flashy but he's the best we got right now. Putting Braxton in today would have been a big gamble in such a tight game.

That's an understatement. They even brought Shugarts across as a TE on the left side on one play, pulling him inside as a lead blocker, and they were still blown up at or behind the line.

When all 11 guys on defense can run downhill, you're not going to be able to run the ball between the tackles.

People are forgetting some things here as well. We're missing Adams, Posey, Herron, and Hall on this offense right now. We also lost Brown out there for most of the day. I want to see what Braxton can do also, and I feel he should have been giving at least 2-3 series in this game to see what he can do. You're not going to learn a lot about the kid when he's playing up 35-0 on a high school team. I just think people are being overcritical of Joe today when we could be putting blame on a lot of other people right now...

Absolutely. Always the same garbage, and sadly it isn't very isolated.

What's worse, is we used to hear this absurdity at Pryor's expense demanding Bauserman be put in.

Haven't you heard? The back-up quarterback is always the best player on the team. Just ask the fans of just about any team.

I know rationalizations are emotional defenses but blaming Smith for Joe missing him when he was wide open in the end zone is a bit much.

:roll2:

This back up QB was one of the top recruits in the nation last year. The starter is a 25 year old walk on with very little game experience. I don't think it is unrealistic for anyone to question why the back up didn't get some playing time - particularly given the coach said he would - when the offense could only muster 20 points against a MAC team.

Did we win?

We sure did, and we looked damn good doing it. We dominated a MAC school, 27-22, and our offense was unstoppable. I have no idea why anyone would be concerned about the team going forward.

It might be a bit much to give Taos credit for living in a world based on anything, emotion or otherwise.

Smith was running wide open multiple times today and had to wait on the ball at other times. Great play by the Toledo DB on the jump ball, but a properly thrown ball doesn't give him time to catch up (something Pryor also struggled with).

Devin was underthrown twice on TD routes and badly overthrown on a third.

I went to a closed OSU practice before the Akron game, and i truly believe what we saw today is the normal Joe. Even in practice he was overthrowing wide open guys by 5-10 yards, and had trouble getting the ball away when under pressure. I think last week he just looked a lot because of the team they played against. If Joe is overthrowing guys and having trouble getting the ball out in practice, and now against Toledo, it could be a long season for him.

I was really shocked that Joe came out and started the 2nd half. I figured Fickell would've given Braxton some more experience before the big games start, starting next week in Miami. I still think Braxton will be the started by the end of the season...he just needs the game experience.
