QB Julian "Just" Sayin (Official Thread)

Heard from a few buckeye media sights that Sayin is really turning heads.

Obviously early and they aren’t saying he’s pushing for the starting job, but TIFWIW.
Yeah I’m hearing the same. Day has even trusted him to play with the 1s on occasions and go against the 1st team defense. He hasn’t looked over whelmed and has a lightning quick release.

But let me reiterate, he will not be the starter this season. The winner of Howard v Brown is easily good enough to win a NC. But… Sayin could compete for #2

Sayins size concerns me to be honest but there’s no replacement for processing information and accuracy. All things that he’s apparently really good at.

One thing I’ll say is if he’s getting burn with the ones at this point? He must be really good. Remember Trevor Lawrence won a natty as a true freshman.

No way is he QB1, yet, and probably not #2, but what we need is solid practice and, hopefully, game minutes this year. Of the various issues I've had with Day, this is #1 or 2: he doesn't give QBs in-season minutes. That just makes no sense, especially from a former QB, and we've had to deal with the fallout twice. I know it's hard/impossible to get five QBs game minutes, but it you develop these guys properly, they ought to be able to get in against Akron, etc. At least, after Howard and Brown, Kienholz and whichever of the other two looks like he's ready. Alternate games and get them blooded.

That is exactly what I want to hear honestly. If Sayin won the job, no matter how good he is I would be concerned about Howard/Brown/LK. But if he looks great, I think a year of cognitive and more importantly physical development would go a long ways. I say this all the while knowing that Noland is going to fight like hell for the job.

I wouldn’t go that far, and I didn’t want to get peoples hopes up with my comment. He ain’t starting, he’s AT BEST, the #2. But could easily be #3 or #4.
But like @RugbyBuck said, Day needs to find ways for the backups to get actual game reps. Absolutely no reason the starter should be in if the game is in the bag. i don’t see all 5 playing, but 3 definitely could

I agree that all 5 won’t play. But I do believe the schedule sets up in a way that all 5 COULD play. And probably should, considering the wide open competition next year.

Love to hear the encouraging reports about him. With their weapons all they need is the kind of QB who can process quickly and get the ball out on time, accurately. And occasionally scramble for a first down on 3rd and 5. A Brock Purdy type, which it sounds like he might be. Obviously the chances of him starting this year are pretty slim but I wonder if in general teams will start playing true freshman more now b/c an early season loss is so much less damaging than it used to be with the 12 team playoff.

Agree and I would add that a few missteps and/or injuries ahead of him and he could be the guy toward the end of the year. That's not ideal, and I hope we're not in that spot, but at some point ability, processing speed, and upside override game experience and B/B- play.
