QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

I think if Fields has a rocky season and we miss the playoffs, while Tate has a good season and takes a team to the playoffs, Day will get some grief.

I was actually worried about that with how good Burrow looked in the start of the season. Getting bumped by LSU in the playoffs picture would have had the talk heads of ESPN, FS1, and the rest of the media material to argue about for weeks.

Burrow was hovering around 50% completion percentage for over half the season and Haskins tounchdown number > Burrow touchdown numbers by a mile. I'm happy for Joe. He exemplifies everything you want to see in a person but Haskins was a much better quarterback last season.

I felt Haskins was the better QB pretty quickly. Burrow definately elevated LSU last season though. I think Tate could do the same thing for another program if he picks the right program. I don't think West Virginia is that program though.

Interesting...do they honor his scholarship this semester if he refuses to play football?

Yes, they do.

Not apples to apples comparison, but UGA could be dicks right now if they wanted to be in regards to Fields transfer. You don’t do it for multiple reasons...

1. You want to be seen as a player “friendly” program. If Martell picks a new school but needs to graduate in April to transfer penalty free, OSU should honor it

2. Coaches have long memories. If Gorman, for example, thinks OSU stuck it to Tate unfairly, on top of not honoring his scholarship, good luck trying to recruit that school going forward.

OSU made their bed when they recruited Fields. Right, wrong, or indifferent.....you do everything you can to help facilitate Tate’s next move. Being stingy over it now, when we’ve essentially picked “our guy” can hurt long-term. Help the kid out in whatever ways are possible......

The reason ALL OF college football anticipates Fields being eligible in February is bc Georgia has already stated they will support his case when the NCAA asks for their recommendation in regards to his waiver, as an FYI.

Am I the only one who has zero concern about the QB's next season??

If they pan out, awesome! If they don't, pound the rock with fucking JK "Heisman" Dobbins and Master Teague and have the best Defense in college football.
I'm not worried.

I dont know about zero... my greatest fear is Tate bounces and waiver gets denied.
Even then, i think Baldwin can do a job as game manager w/a stable of great RBs... question at that point is more about 2020... Baldwin or Fields... and the non-starter transferring.
It's hard to keep a full QB room in 2019.

By all accounts the waiver is basically 99.99% chance of being approved. All sources are basically considering it a foregone conclusion. Only thing that worries me is injuries. If Tate moves on which it looks like he will do as long as Fields stays healthy we are fine.

Yea id agree. Which is why it's a very small worry.
But there's always that 'Ohio State doesnt get the same breaks' shit. We got hammered by NCAA and media for fucking tattoos while Miami got away with murder, PSU successfully repealed child rape, UNC faked an entire degree program for the better part of a decade for bball and fball ...

I have the same concerns I always do about a new QB, but Tate is leaving and performing well shouldn't be a surprise or a huge issue. It sucks no doubt, but people are crazy if they doubt Ryan Day facilitating the transfer of Fields. He obviously sees the same great potential in Fields that everyone does. If you're confident in your ability as a coach, you take the once in a decade prospect and run with it.

And yeah, we also have Dobbins, McCall, and Teague.
