QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

Kirk Herbstreit;1864473; said:
You know, as if... what is wrong with you that you don't have in your pocket you don't have your final AP vote from the regular season to work off of, which I know is what most people think that's what you had. But you had a little thing going on called, you know, the National Title game and gameday...

Yeah, exactly

...and what did you get, like fifteen minutes after the game to get your vote in?

Seriously Bruce, that's your softball question. He's an AP voter. He knows the ballot is due after the game. Every team but 2 has played their bowl game by this point. If you don't have your draft of your ballot ready to go, then you don't take your job seriously. And if you don't, then give up your vote. Its that [censored]ing simple.

Here's how my final poll worked is... andy I'm not making any excuses for my poll or where I put Ohio State or anything like that, but you're right Bruce. When you're not only calling the game, I did two hours of pregame before, then I called the game, then I did the postgame after, and then when I finished, I didn't even know what my name was.

Once I finished doing that, our research guy said, hey, you've gotta call in your AP vote. *laughing groan* Oh my God... are you kidding me? I've got to fill out the AP? So he and I are kind of going through it, and honestly, he helped me more than he probably needed to.

Ummm... bull[Mark May]. That's a whole buffet of excuses.

Once I got through the first four - with Auburn, TCU, Stanford, Oregon, all those teams - and you get to those next four to five teams, and you know, I didn't, uh, just so you know, with my AP vote, I don't ever look at, 'well this team has one loss, so they should be ahead of this team which had two losses'

Amazing. So you admit the rest of your ballot is unaffected by the National Title game. So why again did you not have a draft ready to go?

One thing I knew for sure, Wisconsin beat Ohio State, you had to put Wisconsin ahead of Ohio State, in my opinion, even though Wisconsin lost their bowl game, they did beat Ohio State head to head, and that gave them an advantage in my opinion.

You didn't have to put them ahead of OSU just like you don't have to put MSU ahead of Wisconsin. Did you remember to put Arkansas ahead of LSU? Assclown.

Probably with Oklahoma, it was more with the eye test, and knowing the potential of what Oklahoma can do, more than 'well they lost to this team, there, that team.' It wasn't necessarily... I don't every really look at it like that.

And just what did Oklahoma score in the evening gown competition Herbie?

And then fresh off of the way the big ten in the bowl games on January 1st, I just thought that at the end of the day, as much as I want to put Ohio State at 2 - I'd love to put them as high as I can put them - what did Ohio State really do at the end of the day, to warrant being up in the top 5, other than not lose their bowl game and beating Arkansas?

Are you [censored]ing kidding me? What did Oklahoma do other than not lose their bowl game to a mid-major and beating UConn? This logic is where the stupid meets the inane in a violent clash of lovemaking.

So I just, you know, put them around that 8 or 9 mark, and I think I ended up putting them at 9.

You "think?" You've received a million emails over it. Its the whole purpose of you calling in the program and you think? Please. At least be honest. People respect that more than this bull[Mark May].

And imagine if you're a Wisconsin fan, and all of these people voted Ohio State above Wisconsin. It's like wait a second, didn't we play, and beat em?

It must be kind of like being a Michigan State fan.

I really put it down, and I'm not making excuses for it, it is what it is, and it has nothing to do with not loving Ohio State or not loving Terrelle Pryor or an axe to grind or I'm jealous of this... man this is getting old!

Again, yes, you are.

I mean they're even reciting "I remember in 04 [about the Alamo Bowl broadcast]". Are you kidding me?

It's a pattern of irresponsibility. It comes with the territory. If your ballot was an isolated incident, people probably wouldn't care that much.

I'm hoping by going on this cruise, that I'm going to have this experience of rational, sane Ohio State people to give me hope that there is still civility among the Ohio State fanbase.

I'm hoping you go on the cruise and a few Ohio State people tell you to your face what Bruce Hooley was afraid to do. It would give me hope that there's still some pride among the Ohio State fanbase.

He should have kept his full mouth shut. The "Wisconsin beat tOSU so you have to put them ahead of them" excuse is the biggest steaming pile of dogshit I've heard in a long time. If you played by that logic, assuming he applies it to everyone, a poll would be a fucking rubix cube...

Bilas is everything that Herbie wishes he could be--besides providing excellent commentary, he deftly avoids being a Duke homer as well as he avoids going over the top in an attempt not to look like a homer. I swear if you didn't know it or he otherwise mentions it, you'd never be able to figure out from his commentary that he even went to Duke.

Todd Blackledge....this is the man Herbie should aspire to be....total class and never hacks JoePa or the Nittanys

I know it was posted earlier, but Ramzy nailed the flawed logic (if any) that Herbie uses to rank teams in this article. The best quote in the article:
Arkansas dropped as many spots in his final poll for losing to Ohio State as Ohio State did for beating Arkansas. It was a fantastic palindrome of Herbstreit failure. If it was a deliberate betrayal of the spirit of voting, he should have his ballot revoked by the AP. If it was by accidental negligence he should have his ballot suspended. If he?s become so entitled by his celebrity that he?s not going to take the process seriously he should forfeit his ballot. No voter had Ohio State ranked lower than Herbstreit. Not coincidentally, no voter was ranked lower than Herbstreit either.
Damn, Herbie. :shake:

Common Herbstreit Defense (actions deemed derogatory towards OSU):

3) Father played/coached at OSU
4) Kids are OSU fans
5) Lives in Central Ohio

Floyd Mayweather (after Manny Pacquiao racism incident):

"Some of my guys are Muslim. Some of my guys are Jews. Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, white, it doesn't matter. There's nothing but love in my heart, you know what I'm saying?"

Being associated with something doesn't give you carte blanche to be an idiot.

My daughter wore Red today. I really need to ask her if she's a closeted Communist.

Herbie just said "Southern", "Speed" or "Athletic" again while you're reading this.

Pretty brutal take-down. Honestly didn't think the normally lightweight Ramzy had it in him.

Perhaps he should write more articles like that instead of his usual fare at Bucknuts.
