QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

Ehh, our worst WR is better than their best WR, by a wide margin. Imagine a world where Liam Clifford is your go to guy.
Thankfully that's not been a thing for a long time in Columbus.

That said, the offense they had this year was really hindered by Allar's inability to throw downfield. Still, I think McCord ends up somewhere like Rutgers or even Maryland....or maybe in the ACC...something like that.

After the Minnesota game, I said this:
• In his last tune-up prior to The Game, QB Kyle McCord was adequate but not great: 20/30, 212 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, sack. All season long, Buckeye fans have been trying to come up with an appropriate comparison for McCord, with the most common candidate being Craig Krenzel. After watching McCord for eleven games, I can't help thinking that he's Todd Boeckman – a quarterback who was good enough to lead Ohio State to the brink of a national championship as a junior in 2007, but who was quickly replaced by a younger better player (Terrelle Pryor) the following season
This move was inevitable, especially after the tCun loss in which McCord's two interceptions were crucial. The timing is also not surprising, given that McCord would not want to risk injury in a "meaningless" bowl game.

Best of luck to Kyle. He could be a legend at some place like Rutgers.

The first interception was bad. The second one, I can't fault him on. The pocket collapsed. If he had a little time, that play could have won us the game. However, he could have also tossed it away and not have just chucked it anyway.

Best of luck to Kyle. We’ll always have ND. I think this is more about Day feeling pressure and not committing to Kyle that he’s the starter next year. I respect the tough conversation that most don’t want to have and we saw how Kyle responded. I don’t see this as a massive problem and way better to get this behind us now.

Kyle was a third year guy that was surrounded by NFL talent, he got two years playing by CJ Stroud and he had Ryan Day to develop him. Odds of him taking a Joe Burrow step year 2 aren’t high. I did not like how he approached THE game and his tik tok dance. He did not improve throughout the season and I never saw the fire you look for in a leader. I also don’t think he had good followership from the team. We’ll see how today goes if other players or recruits react but I think based on how he reacted to Days honest comments this was a good outcome for the program.
I agree with your assessment.

We have been so spoiled with QBs who can step up and be “successful” that an 11-1 QB is not good enough anymore. Could he had done better on some throws and see the field better? Sure! But we can’t blame him only for the loss to ttun as the Oline stunk and the defense was held back by playing it safe and not attacking at all.

Roll Tides…because I so dislike tSun… and s does not stand for school

There were problems with the offensive line this year. Those problems did result in the final interception in The Game. McCord did miss reads on open receivers all year, improving as the year went on, but still not meeting the standard. His limitations are well articulated here.

What disappoints me is the level of discussion on BP about him and others on this team. I refer to the personalized derogatory nature of it...to the fact that positive comments are almost always met with such toxicity and poison...repeating again and again the same tropes.

McCord is a kid. Any of us who have spent a lot of time around them as professors know very well how this toxicity affects them and others on the team. Of course, the response is that they must put on their big boy pants, yet it is strange that the nature of posts by the most toxic of posters recently suggests that it is the posters who need to put on their big boy pants.

One can say the same thing about the acidic commentary about Day. I lived through Cooper too, but that does not justify making the same negative points again and again about Day or reviving a Cooper thread just so we can relive that era.

There is no sense in seeking to close out every discussion and mire this board in the same negativity and toxicity that must needs characterize not only the majority of BuckNuts posters but the lives of the posters here who spill such venom.

The vision behind the founding of BP was to have a place where people who understood football could meet and discuss the Buckeyes and college football in particular. There was wonderful content by posters such as LJB, OSUGrad, etc. One learned a lot about football coming here. The same can be said about basketball, wrestling, tennis, gymnastics, diving and other sports.

People who continued to whine after a loss and express such negativity soon found themselves out the door.

We all get it. For some, even most, of us, McCord didn't meet the standards we have come to accept at Ohio State. It has been said over and over. We can assume that he has done his best and it is certain that he will find some place where he will shine using what he learned here.

So, please shut up and wish this kid and the team he leaves behind well.

So my son works at a sandwich shop near OSU and players will come in frequently. Today I guess Kyle and his pops stopped by. Here's what he texted me...

Kyle mccord and his dad just came in
I told kyle hell of a year just being nice

And then his dad started talking about how bad our oline was.

Thought that was interesting
Brody had the scoop first?

This is even more interesting in hindsight. 3 years in and I still don’t think either side was sold on the other.

Even childhood friend Marv seemed upset at times. And we know Harrison Sr had his thoughts.

I’ll just say this is fine and good luck elsewhere.

He didn't have faith in them at the beginning of the year or he would have started Brown at least.

Looking back at fall camp, it seems like Day was really hoping he'd figure out his turnover and consistency issues. Could very well be seen differently now. LK was never going to come into fall camp and do anything immediately. Maybe he really came on in the 2nd half of the year. A fast rising sophomore would be the best case scenario.
