QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

I don't pin this on Todd, but he looked scared at times, just as he did v. ILL.

He's the starter going into Spring, but I see a Zwick/Smith battle shaping up. At this point, I've seen enough to know I 'd like to see something else.

Agree completely. He just looks like whenever he gets startled, he tries to force things. Everytime I feel like he shoulda learned and he will be better next time....it seems like he keeps making the same mistakes.

:roll1: go away troll!

I don't understand why he's a troll. He is absolutely correct. Todd played a solid game.

His first pick was the correct read. That pick WAS NOT on Todd. IF IT'S AN INCOMPLETE PASS, FINE. It should not have been an interception. Ray let Todd down on that pass IMO. It was the correct read and should have been an incompletion at the very lworst. To let Jackson intercept that was terrible IMO.

Todd also made the best possible throw he could to Brian Robiskie. I won't get on anyone for that play. Brian is generally as fundamental as it gets, but the DB made a great last second play on him.

I thougvht Todd played decent as well. Yes he threw a pick and yes he had a fumble, but the fumble was forced from his perception of HAVING to make a play and his INT was absolutely more on the receiver than him.

Todd is the elder stateman coming in. That said, I would be very surprised if he didn't have to "win" his job again this upcoming year. He struggled down the stretch but he far from lost this game. He put the team in the situation to have at the very least 13 if not 17 points in the first 25 minutes of the game. He didn't win it for us but he didn't lose it either. They can't go through 2 quarter defense swoons and hope to win the game against at worst even competition.

This offseason will make or break TB. After tonight, he's going to hear nothing but talk about his inadequacies as QB, how his replacement (Henton and/or Pryor, God Willing) is already waiting in the wings. And on... and on... (please note that I disagree wholeheartedly with the above commentary--a QB can't effectively manage the game when he's on his ass....)

He can either grow, and learn from this year, or he can crumble.

I think Todd's got the strength of character to rebound, rededicate himself, and grow into the QB he has the potential to become.

If there's one coach in the country who knows how to mentor a young man who's down and hurting, it's Tressel.

The sun rises tomorrow, and the past--even the painful parts of it--is what makes us who we are.

This night is now part of Todd Boeckman

This night will make him stronger.

I definately agree wth your Tressel comment, but I feel IMHO that I have been feeling that way all season long...but I guess the big stage is a lot different. Maybe I am just expecting to much. Does anyone else agree that he shouldn't have looked so flustered or is it me for being to over critical.

You've got to be kidding me..... what is it going to take for some of you to appreciate what you've got? I am going to assume that some of you just need to sleep 'it' off, and I would say, the sooner the better. Let us try to appreciate the success of the football program as it stands, and the position that our QB Todd Boeckman put us in this season.

[sarcasm]It must be really easy to fill the shoes of the Big Ten's first EVER Heisman QB.[/sarcasm]

Too many people hide behind the keyboard while Todd gives everything he has to Buckeye Nation IN FRONT OF THE WORLD (for the last 5 years to boot), and THIS is the thanks he gets.

Show some gratitude, Buckeye fans....Grow up.

ehh I thought Boeckman did a good job, but not a great job.

Maybe the real challenge will be to change his mind set. ever since the Illinois game, well really the MSU game when he gave up two defensive td's, the coaching staff has pampered him, protected him, babied him. Simplified the play book from the Michigan game on.

He was getting pressured a lot tonight, and with all that did a good job.

Needed to recognize blitzes faster and go to the hot receiver --- and I didn't see the TBs releasing into the flat once.

As I said in the game thread, it looked like we really only ran a few plays tonight.

Not very creative.

But this protecting Todd won't help him man up. I hope he competes for the starting job next year and toughens up.

Thank you Todd for a good year and let's beat USC.

Go Buckeyes!!!

Hey guys, last time I checked, Todd was the one that apparently got everyone back in the spirit of things to even try a comeback. Keep that in mind.

He was a leader when there needed to be one. While he needs work on decision making and pocket awareness, he doesn't need to work on his spirit.

Also has a good looking girlfriend.

I'll be honest on my assessment of Boeckman. Boeckman tried his best tonight and tried to be a leader. He is a really nice guy and he had a good start to the season. However, I do feel that Illinois, scUM, and the NC game tonight he looked very bad. I think Todd has the tools to be a good one but he just looked so uncomfortable out there the last 3 games. He has no pocket awareness lately...I know he doesn't have to make a ton of huge plays but a very nice play would be to see him throw the ball away and quit taking sacks. I felt the first INT was on Small and he didn't do a good job of going for the ball and the defender made a nice play. I also felt like ir Robo catches that perfect TD pass when the game is 10-10, it may have been a totally different game.

You cannot pin this loss totally on Boeckman though I must admit, I'm not so sure I'm comfortable with him at the helm for next year. If/when Pryor comes here, I do believe he could get some significant PT if Boeckman doesn't step it up quite a bit. I also think Henton is going to be in the mix. Fact is that Boeckman played pretty poorly his last 3 games...you wonder if he overachieved the first 10 games against weaker opponents, or if he was exposed against better teams. I am a fan of the QB job being completely open next spring/fall, though I really hope Todd bounces back for a great senior season.

Todd showed a lot tonight with the way he hung in there. He can do a lot of things for us and with this support cast, I just feel like at times during the game we tried to gave the ball to Todd and let him make things happen when we didn't have to. We can win champions with him, but dynamic has to change.
