RB Bri'onte Dunn (dismissed from team)

Things sure went bad fast with Dunn:

Exiting spring, Urban Meyer raved about the running back on and off the field.

“Bri'onte Dunn, I’m so impressed with him,” the Buckeyes head coach said by way ofelevenwarriors.com. “Because we all know a couple years ago there wasn’t a whole lot of conversation about him … He’s doing right in the classroom and doing right everywhere.”

With Dunn (17-132-1 in 2015) out of the picture, the Buckeyes will turn to Mike Weber, a four-star 2015 recruit who took a redshirt as a true freshman, to be the bellcow in the rushing attack. Landgrantholyland.com writes that “Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer said as recently as this March he’d hoped Dunn would win the battle against… Weber to become the Buckeyes’ primary ballcarrier.

We don't actually have that many RBs on the roster. Seems a bit thin. Hopefully no injuries.
True RB: 1 RS freshman, 2 freshmen. I'll call that inexperienced and thin. Do have Dontre and Curtis who played RB/HB/Slot/Wideout last year. Was really hoping they could stay hybrid allowing us to keep multiple established weapons on the field, and only taking maybe 15 snaps at RB combined per game. They both had more receiving yards than rushing last year, and many of the rushing yards were motion out of the slot.

Nice thing about us is we have the ability to adapt our style a bit and a silver lining is two fold.

1. We can now showcase Weber

2. This will undoubtedly force us to be balanced

I envision us still running Mike 15+ times but I'd imagine you see more motion options with Samuel and Dontre. We weren't going to pound our RBs like zeke anyways and as such we will adjust. We have the weapons to compensate and I didn't blink twice on this dismissal as much as it sucks for brionte.

Add in Williams and McCall with Samuel and Dontre and we will be more then fine.

I'm not sure of the specifics of Dunn's dismissal but Meyer needs to be careful about instantly booting him, especially given how he handled Hyde and giving him a chance for redemption. Obviously, there will be details to follow, but I don't want Meyer to be labeled a hypocrite for dismissing an expendable 5th year player that probably wouldn't see much playing time....if that makes sense. If Dunn were Hyde would he be given a second chance? That's the question that I will keep in my mind as details unfold.
I'm just guessing but maybe he was already on his second chance.

When you make respecting women one of your 3 golden rules you better make it clear that you cannot break them. When it's stressed that these are as paramountil to the program as he says then when they're broken you cannot afford to go easy on them. Now these kids know you do not mess around with these 3.

A great leader holds people accountable and this is exactly what Urban just did.

Actually only 1 RS freshman and 1 freshman. McCall is going to play the H, not RB, this year. He's very slightly built... so much so that Dontre looks huge in comparison.

No team in the country has only 2 RBs. OSU will have to move someone.

If I remember correctly, Dunn got into some trouble before he went to Ohio State - a fight at McKinley or maybe a gun/pot thing? Hope he finds his way from here.

This will be another example - in the circle of Urban critics - of him cutting players. But as has been pointed out, this hurts RB depth, so it would be hard to argue that Urban wants a spot for another 5 star in 2017 - but that probably won't stop them.

There is probably a DB or OLB on the roster that played RB in HS. In a pinch, they could take a young player from there to add depth, but my guess would be that Curtis Samuel's RB duties just increased.

He was in a car that was pulled over for possession I believe.

Yes trolls will foolishly claim he's being cut, but this is his last year. They can't recoup that scholarship, unless there was some crazy late grad transfer . The spot will likely be given to a walkon like Joe Burger who might not have to return his offseason scholarship as originally planned.

You seem to forget that Samuel was the #2 RB--not HB--behind Zeke, and did very well.
