RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

Last year, Pittman had success and we stopped toting the rock.

This year, Beanie had only 9 carries in the first half.

I would have liked to have seen 30-40 carries for Beanie last night. I don't know what the final number was, but he was on pace for 18 at halftime..

He was the best player on the field last night.. getting behind didn't help us but IMO the 2nd quarter is what did Ohio State in.. and that quarter we got away from running the ball down their throats..

That is what drove me crazy about last night. Beanie would get maybe 1-2 yards on first down and we never gave it right back to him. He is something special and we didn't ride him like we should have.

Check it out I just lifted it off of the DVD.

Beanie put together a few awesome runs but I enjoyed this stiff arm the most.

Finished with 20 carries for 164 yards and 1 TD... a back that averages 7.3YPC is something that should have been used a bit more last night (in my Armchair QB eyes).

If someone would've gave me those stats before the game started, I'd have bet the house we'd win big. Glad nobody did...

If he's not in the initial top five of next season's Heisman hopefuls, something is seriously wrong...

My dad called me before the game and asked for my predictions. I said Beanie would have 150 yards and 2TD's and there would be a couple of plays specifically for Brandon Saine... I didn't give him a score or margin of victory but said if that happens I like the Bucks chances... though that did happen (minus 1 TD) unfortunately we know the outcome...

I was watching the game last night with my wife. Now before I tell you this little "true" story, I must begin by saying that she isn't the most informed Buckeye football fan. I was happy that she wanted to watch with me but there were conditions. She said she couldn't just sit there for 4 hours without doing something while watching, so she pulled out the ironing board and ironed a few of my shirts. Life is good, my shirts are getting ironed, the game is going on and Beanie was running the ball. She asked who that was that just put his arm out and knocked those guys in the yellow pants down so easily when he runs. I told that's Beanie Wells and he's the best running back out there tonight. As he ran out of bounds and rolled past another defender, I felt good knowing he was a Buckeye. The game was still developing and his runs were spectacular. Later my wife noticed the score was changing and Beanie wasn't running as much. She asked me why the coach with the grey sweater vest wasn't running him as much as before. I said he is trying to pass and mix things up somewhat rather than use too much Beanie in the game plan. My response was clear but with a noticeable irritation in my voice. She asked what was wrong and before I could give her my carefully worded response she said: "Doesn't that coach with sweater vest want to win the Super Bowl and why didn't Beanie run the football more if he want to win." This caught me by surprise, and then she asked who Ohio State was playing? I said they're playing the LSU in the Super Bowl and the Buckeyes were trying to win a crystal football.

I sat there in awe as the game played out with her words about Beanie ringing in my head. Why didn't Beanie run the ball more? Why didn't the guy in the sweater vest run him more? I guess we'll never know if we could have won the Super Bowl of BCS Bowl games with three yards and a cloud of dust style running and what that crystal looks like in the trophy case in 2008.

I completely agree. I wish we could've seen Beanie get the ball more often. I am SO excited about how well he has done this past season, and will continue to do next season. I love watching him play.

This is why that dropped TD by Robo/blocked field goal was such a huge moment in the game. LSU scored a TD off the block then on the next drive Boeckman threw the pick which resulted in another TD. Now JT had to try and throw the ball down 14 with the half about to expire. Then the next half started and we go down 21...basically ruining Beanie's day. The way he started in the first few drives, I thought he'd run for about 250 and 3 TDs. He was getting hit at the line and pushing the line forward 4/5 yards almost every time. He was clearly a man among boys. But with the huge momentum swing in that 2nd quarter, we had to start throwing and well... Too bad for Beanie and too bad for the Bucks. I think JT realized we could beat these guys with Beanie and ball control and we just didn't get to see that played out. But hey...that's football and I'm already pumped for next year! Beanie for Heisman!

I completely disagree. He wasn't getting enough touches in the first half and even if you want to use the 2nd quarter when we got behind it was still so early that you didn't have to give up on the run. 9 carries in the first half is just not enough.

Imo Tress, or TB putting them in the plays, went to the pass too early and too often. You should be willing to slam it up in there against an 8 man front a few times with a back the caliber of Beanie. Its a cumulative effect, not just that one play.

2 years in a row now, when we have gotten into trouble we didn't go to our bread and butter. I made note of several other coaches losing Bowl games this year because of that and thought JT was above it.

Agreed. Down two scores in the first half does not mean panic and throw.
