Former Ohio State running back Eddie George returned to campus Tuesday night and it had very little to do with football.

The 1995 Heisman Trophy winner and his wife of seven years, Tamara "Taj" George, spent the evening at the South Campus Gateway Barnes and Noble to promote their new book, "Married For Real."

Co-written by the couple, the book aims to tell the Georges' story while helping readers rise to meet the daily challenges in their own marriages.

"It's kind of our blueprint and our map of how we navigated through it and grew through those experiences based on it," Eddie George said.

Tamara George agreed, saying the publisher originally approached them and they thought it would be fun "to put it all out there."

"So many people think that marriage is like this pretty party and a reception but it's not," she said. "After that party's over, you have to really put in some time and work the craft of marriage or else you run into issues."

Eddie George said the couple met in 1994 at a mall in Florida and finally started dating in 1997.

"We became friends, first and foremost, and based off of our friendship we grew to like each other, and 14 years later we're sitting here having this conversation," he said.

Eddie George said returning to campus is always a great experience for him and it's always different when he comes back.

One of those notable changes would be the addition of new OSU football coach Urban Meyer, who he said he has met a few times.

Most recently, Eddie George said he talked to Meyer in New York at the Heisman Hall of Fame dinner where the two shared football stories, ideologies, philosophy.

Meyer also told Eddie George "what he plans on bringing to the table at Ohio State."

"I'm a big fan obviously, so I think he'll be fine," Eddie George said.

While on youtube, watching Eddies video, I saw this in the corner. I looked to see if it was posted in this thread, but couldn't find it, so I apologize in advance if it's a re-post.

This video displays Eddies tenacity when he plays. He never once goes down on the first hit, and its against players like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. The man was a beast.

I watched him practice once when I was 12. Cooper made him practice sometimes with the hogs/ or the linemen. You couldn't tell much of a difference between Eddie and the other 300lb linemen. Very intimidating man in person.

EDIT - lyrics NSFW

A conversation with Eddie George

Former Ohio State running back Eddie George returned to Columbus, Ohio, Tuesday, and he certainly had some things to say.

The Lantern had an exclusive opportunity to talk to George, and his wife Tamara. The Georges were back on OSU's campus for a book signing to promote their co-written book "Marriage For Real" at the South Campus Gateway Barnes and Noble.

The two also briefly discussed a number of issues including his future, thoughts on relationships and marriage, the idea, or lack thereof, of an understood "gentlemen's agreement" while being recruited in the Big Ten and whether or not he was able to balance relationships and football during his time as a Buckeye.

On being back on OSU campus

Eddie George said, in the future, he is excited to hopefully work with OSU in infusing different projects and ideas.

"For me personally, I have aspirations and plans on coming back and really engaging the student body in a great capacity, in a greater capacity," he said.

On Marriage and Relationships

Eddie George wanted to issue a warning to couples thinking about tying the knot: "If you're not ready to get married, don't do it," the former Heisman winner said. "Once you get married, there's a new layer to be discovered."

Tamara George agreed and said in marriage, there are some things you will like and some things you will hate.

The couple, which will celebrate eight years of marriage in June, advised college-aged students who read the book to make the most of their time and freedom in school.

Eddie George said that while "it's a joy being married," you "definitely need to enjoy your time being in college."

"Explore, date other people, travel the world, I wouldn't start thinking about getting married until in your 30s, mid 30s, even your 40s, because you're still developing your ideas, who you are as a person, figuring out what you like, what you don't like in a human being and, again, marriage is an experience?it'll be there," he said.

His wife took the opportunity to expand upon that idea of marrying at an older age.

"If you get married in your 20s I think usually when something happens, you probably think the end of the world is coming, but you'll realize that it's not as bad as it seems," Tamara George said. "As long as you're still breathing and able to stand up, you can get through anything."

Connie Hibbler, 53, said she's followed Eddie George throughout his entire football career?college and in the NFL.

Hibbler, who came to the book signing with her sister, said she's excited to see what one of her favorite football stars has to say about marriage.

"Everyone can use help in their marriage," Hibbler said.

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) ?What an individual projects outwardly isn?t always an accurate portrayal of what is really going on inside.

Just ask former Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans great Eddie George, who seemed to make the transition from the NFL to everyday life seamlessly once he retired in 2004. George still had it all: health, money, a supportive family, business ventures and an opportunity to work in front of the camera.

But something was missing and that something was football. It hurt, and soon the former college and pro running back great found himself slipping into a depression.

?It?s hard. It?s hard to find your life purpose, that next passion,? George said in an exclusive interview with SportsRadio 610 over the weekend. ?There were moments when I had to seek counseling. I recommend to anybody coming out of the game to seek counseling to get that support to help you find your next venture or find who you are.

?It didn?t matter how much money I had in the bank account, what I had accomplished, it didn?t matter I had businesses. Nothing fulfilled my life like suiting up every Sunday and playing with the guys and in front of thousands of people cheering my name. That?s the ultimate high.?
