RB Jordan Hall (Official Thread)

Football: Jordan Hall sparks possibility of All-Jeannette backfield
Drew Sullivan
Issue date: 2/23/09

All eyes were on Jeannette, Pa., about this time last year.

And it stayed that way until March 19, 2008, when former Jeannette High School quarterback Terrelle Pryor made his decision to take his football career to Ohio State.

The Buckeyes went back to Jeannette to recruit this year, and it didn't take them as long to sign another player from the Jayhawks' backfield in running back Jordan Hall.

Like the quarterback with whom he shared the backfield in high school, this 2009 recruit has a little bit of talent himself.

"He's got tremendous potential," said Steve Helwagen, managing editor for Bucknuts Media Network. "He didn't get an offer just because he's Terrelle Pryor's friend or former teammate. He's definitely on merit."

Profile and short Q&A from 11W:

Who is your hero and why?
My hero is God, because you can accomplish all through him.
Which two fellow recruits do you think might make the biggest impact as freshmen?
I?m going to say myself because I?m so motivated. Plus I think I?m underrated. Also, Dorian Bell because he?s nasty on defense.
You committed to the Buckeyes 10 months ago. How did other schools go about trying to recruit you after you gave your verbal commitment and was it easy dealing with other schools that continued to recruit you?
They still tried to recruit me, but I remained a Buckeye.
Who is your favorite all time college football player? Why?
Barry Sanders, because he reminds me of myself.
You and Terrelle [Pryor] made a pretty good 1-2 punch at Jeannette High School. How much influence did that have on your decision to come to OSU?
Not a lot, maybe a little bit because we played together before and he brought me to OSU when he took his official, so he introduced me to OSU , but he didn?t really influence me to come.

How do you envision yourself being utilized at OSU?
I?ll be a running back, be on kick and punt returns, and maybe catch some passes.

Will Jordan be the first 'return specialist' we've recruited? Teddy and 'Tone were amazing, but even they weren't brought in for their return abilities specifically.

Staff must have seen something very special in Jordan's return abilities, given his size.

I don't think he is just a "return specialist", with TP at qb, we are going to see some similiar things in the next two or three years to what Florida did with Percy Harvin in the slot. Motioning the slot guy to the backfield and different things like that. Hall is a guy that fits in that role for sure.

I agree, I think this kid is gonna be interesting and exciting to watch, but it just depends on how the staff uses him. He tends to get lost in the shuffle some, since he is coming in with Jamal Berry and Carlos Hyde, but I think his skill set will be something we haven't had in a while. That hybrid RB/WR/KR who just needs the ball in space and watch him go!

When Terrelle Pryor left Jeannette a year ago to play football at Ohio State, some people had doubts about the Jayhawks.

Jeannette was coming off WPIAL and PIAA Class AA football and basketball championships, and some fans and coaches believed it would be tough to repeat.

Jordan Hall and his teammates had other ideas.

Even though the Jayhawks came up short in both sports ? losing in the WPIAL football semifinals to Beaver Falls and the basketball finals to North Catholic ? they proved the previous seasons were far from flukes.

Led by Hall, the Jayhawks put together outstanding seasons, and for his effort and leadership on the football field and basketball court, Hall is the Tribune-Review's Male Athlete of the Year.

Hall was the Tribune-Review's Football Player of the Year, and he finished second to Greensburg Salem's Chris Klimchock for Basketball Player of the Year.

"I didn't think I had a great season," Hall said last month before joining Pryor at Ohio State. "It would have been a lot better if we would have won the titles. We don't like to lose in Jeannette."

Hall will join Pryor at Ohio State this fall. He's looking forward to contributing in a big way.

Pryor said the Ohio State coaches were impressed with Hall when he showed up in Columbus two weeks ago.

The versatile Hall led Jeannette with 111 carries for 946 yards ? an 8.5 yards-per-carry average ? and 18 rushing touchdowns this past season. In addition, he caught 10 passes for 266 yards and three scores.

"Jordan is just a great athlete," said former Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz, who now coaches at Latrobe. "He does everything well. He's a heck of a player.

"He was a great leader. I felt he did a great job for us. He has a winning attitude and is very versatile as a running back or wide receiver."

speechless, seen it before but damn thats a hit. people thought he just got an offer because we have TP but this kid is a player and is going to do a lot of good things here

Agreed...I saw him play on TV three times with Pryor and he is a player. He can play the slot well and do some good things at RB. I see him as very similar to Flash Thomas as far as what his role will be, only I think he is more versatile in terms of special teams. Also, he already has some chemistry with Pryor, so I wouldn't rule out seeing him running some option with Pryor.
