RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

Ok, we'll share Wells. Pete has the plane if you'll pitch in for the gas. I was told we had enough WRs last recruiting season. Now we've lost Mike Williams (agent), Whitney Lewis (grades), and Steve Smith (broken leg). A true freshman with homesickness is our #1 receiver for the next few weeks.

I agree that we don't produce the stadium atmosphere and noise level that is guaranteed at every game in the Shoe. It's just a different culture out here. We've been rocking the Coliseum so far (85,521 and 90,008 in our 2 games so far), and the schedule does play out nicely for attendance. ND is a lock for a packed house, and the 2 Arizona schools should bring enough to put us in the 80k+ range. On the flip side, we get screwed financially going to a place like Wazzu where the stadium only holds something like 35k.

No disrespect to USC, but 92k people at SC stadium. Not a chance. I know people who live in there and they say on a weekly basis that the team is lucky to have the Staduium half full EVER. The stadium is surrounded by a rough neighborhood and alot of people do not want to go there. Wait til Maurice Wells comes to the Shoe and sees and hears what a Full Crowd experience is. Now that will make an impression.
When the O-line is playing like this, you better hope Maurice does not come and experience what we are experiencing right now. We have a bigger stadium, but most of our fans don't do a thing when we are losing...just an opinion.

Actually, I'm impressed with the home support that USC is now getting. I was at several games around 98-00 when I lived out there, and was absolutely underwhelmed. All of my USC alumni friends had free tickets to offer, and I could have gone to every game of the year on them. Really good seats, too, even for the UCLA game. Needless to say, that's a bit of a culture shock for someone coming from Columbus.

That's typical LA sports mentality, though. Just watch what will happen at Staples Center if the Lakers start losing 30-40 a year, versus what it has been.

LA sports fans are the definition of bandwagon fans! when their teams stink, they don't show up; but when they win, everyone is a fan! thats a big reason why i hate the lakers.....besides maybe jack nicholson, who else is a real laker fan? same thing goes for usc....they have the most pompus, arrogant fans in the country (methomps, wstripes not included, lol). but where were their fans 4-5 years ago when they sucked?

Call me an eternal optimist but have you noticed the recent recruits of :
'04 - Kyle Mitchum (oh my) and Ben Person, Steve Rehring, Jon Skinner
'05 - Alex Boone, Jim Cordle, Kevin Bemoll and possibly Taz Wilson and/or Dan Doering.
As we are a young Offensive line, I will give you that we are having growing pains right now but the future sure looks good for our Offensive line don't you think? I mean thats some major recruiting at Offensive line. By the time Maurice gets here we'll be just fine and so will he.

You must not of been to any of the games recently. I have been to all of the games and it gets pretty loud always. So thats not exactly an accurate statement. Also the stadium was full. Also back a few years ago in Tressels first year, OSU stadium was still loud and the stands were full so I'd venture to say your inaccurate in that statement. I have been going to almost every game for the past 11 or 12 years and its always loud, fun and spirited inside and outside the stadium. True Buckeye fans stick to their team no matter what kind of year they are having and oh boy is the future bright for the Buckeyes !!!

The Saints welcomed back running back Maurice Wells, who had been limited to a single rushing attempt in each of the last two games. He turned in a strong effort with 227 yards on 37 carries.

Fumbled inside the 10 yard line...

Wolfson 29 .. Sandalwood Saints (ranked #3) 14

Mo has had a tough season holding onto the ball.. not sure how many, but it's a concern...

I went through this whole thread and unless I missed it, it looks like Maurice is going to go down to the wire in making his decision. Please correct me if I am wrong, I'd love to hear that. He sure is worth waiting for though. His break away speed is a sight to see... whew. If Maurice looks at the depth charts and then looks at the guys that will be blocking for him. Its gotta get him excited at the opportunity and the potential yards he'll be racknig up in a scarlet and grey uniform.

Ya never know. The recruiting rat race can get tiresome and some of these guys just take a step back for awhile. Nothing wrong with weighing in all his options and waiting til he's totally ready, but Maurice has been interested in OSU for awhile now and I bet he's looked at the depth charts and the incoming Offensive linemen and he's gotta see all the potential at OSU. Too boot following in the footsteps of Archie Griffen, Eddie George and so many others, plus how OSU's system features runningbacks as the stars ... I'd say Ohio State still has a very good chance of signing Maurice.

Same list of a favorites- USC, G Tech (Dec. 17th official), tOSU (Nov 20th official), ND, Maryland (Oct 29 official), Florida and FSU. He made comments on each team but he said nothing to indicate in which direction he is leaning.

He indicated that early playing time will be a factor in his decision. He is not sure which school gives him the best opportunity right now.
