RB Michael Weber (New Jersey Generals)

His vision and patience in the backfield is bordering on Clarett territory.

I don't know about all that

Vision and patience are fine, but lets not start comparing him to Clarett. Clarett was a beast as a true freshman. I like what i see from Weber, but I also think he is not as strong/powerful as I thought he would be. He seems to get stopped by hits I think he would break. Another year with Marotti will do wonders.

Did you watch Clarrett play in 02?

Ugh, then why isn't he a Heisman candidate?

Take a few....slow......steps back from the Kool-Aid Mr. Jones.

There are now 3 freshman runningbacks to rush for 1,000 yards in school history. Maybe it wasn't koolaid I was drinking

I wouldn't break my arm patting myself on the back there man

He's a great player, no one was disputing that. Those other guys would have had similar stats in this offense as the lead back.

Uh-huh. All I ever did was compare his style to Clarett and I got a stream of you guys telling me how audacious that was. So I think I will gloat a little in how well he's played and I do think he's backed up my high praise. For the record, I never said he was better or even as good as Mo. But I could see he was ahead of the curve as a first year back and ran with the same aggression as Clarett once did

It's Hate week, I'm not going to argue with you about it

It obviously means a lot to you to be able to find a way to say "I told you so"...sorta.

Enjoy

Not really dude but nice job of deflecting your inability to admit he may have been undersold as me being overly obsessed with being right. It's meaningless back-and-forth, nothing more.

However, you're right. It is hate week and I'm glad Mike will be on our sideline

If a guy is a Heisman candidate, he gets the ball in crunch time. Who got the ball in crunch time today, Barrett.

Love the kid but still a freshman.
Isn't that more because of the play calling and not the actual player? Barrett got the most touches in the offense yet we all know that Curtis Samuel is our best offensive weapon. In crunch time last year Barrett also got the ball, but Zeke was also our best offensive weapon and deserved the ball in crunch time as Weber and Samuel should've today

Gotta be the quietest 1,000-yard rusher I can remember.
Because Samuel shares a backfield with him, and he gets all of the press. As well as JT as a rusher too. And I agree.
Though I'll take his quiet 1000yds anyday, because I know if he were given the ball more as a workhorse RB(like he should in a number of games), he would've had 1000yds 2-3gms ago

Michigan Game is Personal for Mike Weber, Which Could Be Bad News for Wolverines

MikeWeberCheckIn.jpg

Imported from Detroit.

It was not just a shirt worn by Mike Weber when he arrived as a freshman, but a mentality.

A high school All-American at Detroit Cass Tech, Weber was a toss up as to whether he would end up at Ohio State or Michigan. Some will tell you that he went to bed the night before signing day as a Wolverine, but woke up as a Buckeye.

Who knows what dreams -- or nightmares -- led him to his ultimate decision, but there are certainly no regrets with where he finds himself now.

Against Michigan State this past Saturday, Weber rushed for 111 yards and went over the 1,000-yard mark on the season, becoming just the third freshman in Ohio State history to do so (Robert Smith, 1990; Maurice Clarett, 2002).

In that game, he could also be seen giving a few Spartans "the business," which is something that quarterback J.T. Barrett had to rein in a bit during the game.

Now against Michigan, Weber is only going to be ramped up even more.

"Right now we’re looking at it as a national championship," Weber said after the MSU game. "Now it’s really personal. A lot of people I played with, Jourdan Lewis, Delano Hill, Michael Onwenu, Levert Hill, all those guys I played with in high school, it’s going to be fun playing against those guys. I’m looking forward to it."

THOUGH HE GREW UP ON WRONG SIDE OF OHIO STATE-MICHIGAN RIVALRY, RUNNING BACK MIKE WEBER EXCITED TO PLAY AGAINST FORMER HIGH SCHOOL TEAMMATES

In a different world, Ohio State running back Mike Weber would be lining up in the Michigan backfield on Saturday. A Detroit native, Weber grew up rooting for the Wolverines and committed to play for head coach Brady Hoke in August 2014.

But when rumors began to circulate Hoke would be fired following a disastrous 5-7 season, the four-star prospect reopened his recruitment two years ago on Tuesday. After an in-home visit from Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs and running backs coach Stan Drayton just two weeks later, Weber decided he wanted to be a Buckeye.

But the story doesn't end there.

Jim Harbaugh furiously tried to salvage Michigan's 2015 recruiting class when he was hired in late December and made Weber a priority. A renewed excitement surrounding the program, an impromptu meeting with Harbaugh at a diner in Detroit and a secret official visit to Ann Arbor made it clear Weber was on the fence about whether to sign with Ohio State or Michigan. But a late-night phone call with Drayton just hours ahead of National Signing Day convinced Weber to come to Columbus.

To add even more intrigue, Drayton left to take a job with the Chicago Bears just one day after Weber signed his binding national letter of intent. The move was heavily scrutinized, and the Buckeyes were accused of using sleight of hand to fend off the Wolverines.

If he wanted to flip back to Michigan at that point, Weber would have been forced to sit out a year as a transfer student or ask Ohio State to release him from his letter of intent. Neither happened, though, and what was once a messy situation eventually worked itself out.

Now, Weber becomes the latest piece in a rivalry that has always been about players who famously crossed the state line — though typically in a northern direction. He won't be the only Michigander, either, as safety Damon Webb, Weber's high school teammate, and left guard Michael Jordan will also start for the Buckeyes.

Webb had just finished his freshman season at Ohio State when Weber made his decision, and their relationship helped ease the transition.

“Having people here that I know of, that I can talk to, that relate to me is always good,” Weber said following Saturday's 17-16 win over Michigan State. "I used to talk to him when I was in high school about the program and what to expect and stuff like that. I felt like him and [defensive tackle] Josh Alabi being here, it was like a mind thing when it comes to that, and I'm glad I get to be with these guys again. It feels good to play with guys you grew up with and play against guys you grew up with."
