RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

I noticed a couple times in the PSU game Rod and Hyde were in the backfield together. THAT has to be a scary look for the D.

I like that look when i see both of them (Smith & Hyde) back there with Miller. Hopefully Herman has something to work with in that tandem.

The three headed monster with Brax.....

If we have a three headed monster offense it would sure be great to see one head being a receiver. However, if Smith and Hyde are "in" I'd be happy with a four headed monster offense.

We can live with a Cerberus for now. The Hydra will be installed next year.

And a "multi headed monster" defense too. Seven heads would be OK, but 11 would be better:

One of Smith's best attributes, because of his slim body, is the ability to slip through small holes in the Defense. I've been impressed with his vision to see a small opening and break through the line untouched into the secondary.

This has happened a number of times this season.

Another great attribute is that he always falls forward and because of his tall frame that means an extra 3 yds.

He seems to be coming into his own the past few games and as with anyone, the more carries he gets the better he is going to be.

He still needs to work on his blocking game as it is not at the same level as his running game by a far stretch.

Yeah but does he wear thick enough socks?!?

I never got that quote. You could say the same thing about running the ball.

Yeah, it really only applies to a team that is not very good at the passing game, examples:
1. your quarterback is more than likey to complete a pass to the other team than his team,
2. your offensive line can't hold a block for more than .0001 seconds,
3. and/or you have Jim Bollman calling the plays and he consistantly calls a 7 yard curl pass on 3rd and 8 which usually results in a 4th down punt.

On the upside a good running game will improve the passing game and vice versa.

Hyde, (likely) Hall, Rod, Brionte, mixing in Jalin, and Braxton is an embarrasment of riches in the backfield next year. We've seen flashes of this offense's potential this season. Next year it will be a menace.

That is as much talent as I can remember recently in one backfield. Urban appears to really be enjoying himself nowadays...you can see why.
