Dontre Wilson for me last year. If Dontre blows up this year in our offense (which he will) do not be surprised if we get another similar player with extreme speed/play maker abilities in the 15' class.

The former is not even a starter, and the latter is not even on campus and you want to replace Percy? Back off. It might happen in time, but not yet.

What opponents will see is a Dutchman team very similar to the one that went all the way last year. Ohio State-bound running back Curtis Samuel and backfield mate Kahlil Lewin return for their third year together after combining for 1,845 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground last season. Samuel is a speeder with a pro-ready 40-yard-dash time, and Lewin is a bruiser in the trenches.
“I block for him. He runs the ball,” Lewin said. “He runs the ball. I block for him. It works both ways. You never know what happens.”

It's gut check time for Curtis Samuel, who wants to win a second straight PSAL title before leaving Erasmus Hall for Ohio State.


On a humid, late-August morning, Curtis Samuel is sprinting sideline-to-sideline, a parachute attached to his waist and trailing behind him. He’s busting it under the sun during a conditioning workout with his Erasmus Hall football teammates, the F train periodically chugging over McDonald Street on the west end of Sid Luckman Field.

These are the dog days of summer, but as his body exhausts, Samuel’s mind is at relative ease as one of the most electric offensive weapons the city has ever seen already has made a commitment to Ohio State.

No more visits, no more coaches knocking on his door, no more minute-by-minute recruitment updates on Twitter. It’s all school and football from here through December, when the senior hopes to lead the Dutchmen to their second consecutive PSAL city title, then graduate early and head to Columbus for the spring semester.

“I just wanted to get the commitment out of the way before the season started so I can focus on my senior year and help my team,” Samuel says, “so we can all work together to get back to the championship.”

The soft-spoken Samuel – ranked No. 44 in the nation in the class of 2014 by Rivals.com and the top-ranked player in the state – doesn’t make it seem like the decision was too difficult, either. Once Ohio State got involved, he knew in his heart he wanted to be. The 6-0, 185-pound running back-slot receiver, who had plenty of elite programs lusting after his defensive-back prowess as well, relished the opportunity to emulate the dynamic Percy Harvin, who thrived in Urban Meyer’s offense at Florida.

Kahlil Lewin scores game-changing 64-yard touchdown in Erasmus Hall's 21-7 win over Tottenville in PSAL opener

Curtis Samuel usually gets all the headlines. He is, after all, an Ohio State commit who’s one of the fastest and most explosive offensive weapons in the nation.

But Samuel’s fellow senior Kahlil Lewin is the rock in the Erasmus Hall backfield. Lewin’s the one who shouldered most of the load a season ago while Samuel was used as a decoy more often than not.

Samuel finished with seven carries for 34 yards, a 28-yard catch and a PAT. The noise surrounding Samuel only -fuels Lewin more.

“Curtis, that’s a good player right there. That’s my brother right there,” Lewin said. “He motivates me to do better.”
