Disagree. NDC is fiercely loyal to his team and I can respect that. Besides, he has proved his loyalty to BP many times over...

MG04 anyone?

I also agree that fans of other teams are important to a board. Otherwise, we'll all just sit around and agree with each other, which would probably get boring after a while.

"The Buckeyes are great."
"Yeah, they're sweet."
"Man, they should be #1 this year."
"Yeah, at least!"
"Yeah, maybe even better..."

Intelligent opposing views are what makes this stuff interesting.

By the way, Grad, what does MG04 mean?

Oh. Nevermind. :p

The same person who sparked my interest in OSU football taught me that hating ND was part of the package... Go Bucks! = ND Sucks!

By the way, Chief, I don't know if you're an ND fan or anything (), but feel free to come over from the dark side...

Do you have a "decent answer" to why you like Ohio State?
My answer is out of date by now, but here goes: When I was a senior in high school Ohio State was open to anyone who managed to pass an accredited high school program... and it wasn't to a Branch Campus or a two-year-associate-degree-and-then-we'll-see situation... They put you right on the Oval and said, "Keep your grades at 2.00 and you can stay as long as you like.

People were put off by the size and Novice Fawcett's annual speech to the freshman class, "Look at the person on your left. Look at the person to your right. Two out of three of you won't be here when I next address the student body."

To me, that was democracy in action. I had a right to go to Ohio State and as long as I acted responsibly the school would support me.

For various reasons I took a long time, fall of 1961 to fall of 1971, to earn my degree. But I always received equal treatment. I had a few bad professors along the way, but the vast majority were excellent teachers. I found that if I took the time and energy to talk to a professor or a counselor and followed their suggestions my problems got solved.

In short, Ohio State left it up to me to succeed or fail.

While I was a student I had two classes taught by Woody Hayes and one with Fred Taylor... imagine that, head coaches who worked as faculty!... Both were tough instructors. While I was a student both programs were above board. Integrity was a constant with the school.

I entered the army in September of 67, 12 hours short of my degree, and was thrown in with grads from virtually every school in America. What I found in the next four years was that my education and academic experiences matched up favorably. I had received an excellent value. I discovered that many of my lieutenant peers had not gone to school with/been taught by people of different religions, races or nationalities and therefore not had their prejudices brought into question. Because of Ohio State's international scope I was well ahead of their learning/coping curves.

Throughout all of this I could say that anyone who played football at Ohio State had entered under the same academic standards that applied to me. Some very promising recruits never made it to the spring football game, but all had received the same make-it-or-break-it opportunity as every other student on campus.

I enjoyed that distinction.

I don't object to private schools establishing their own admission standards, but then don't go out and recruit students who can't match those requirements and talk to me about your school's integrity. I have always felt that ND, Duke, USC and Stanford compormised their claims to academic excellence for just this reason.

My real peeve comes when public schools, such as Michigan, establish themselves as "public Ivys." Why? Because they place themselves above the very public they were put in place to serve. They take on no responsibility to meet the needs or strivings of all their state's students. When they then compound that academic arrogance by recruiting athletes who cannot meet the standards of the school, when they produce a Heisman Trophy winner who can do the "trophy pose" at the end of his touchdown run, but can't speak in complete sentences, I have to seriously wonder exactly what etihical code they operate under.

So why do I root for Ohio State? Because the school gave me a chance. Because I received an excellent value for my time, effort and money. Because the school had one set of rules for all of its students. Because it was a public school that served its public. Because the coaches were part of the academic program and held themselves to the letter and spirit of the NCAA guidelines. Because when I sought help, the school provided. Because when the tuba players tilt back and the sounds of the Orton Hall Chimes ring out I want to cry and sing at the same time.

Go Bucks!

Why I Love to Hate ND

Can we just once open College Football Today without a Jimmy "Pickle" Claussen love fest?

Can I see a report from the Brown's camp that doesn't ask the musical question "Will Quinn Start?"

Let's see, Quinn was picked in what round behind how many other QBs?

The Irish are picked to start the season outside the top 25 and yet everyday there has to be a Notre Dame story to lead the sports pages. I've yet to see a CFT story on Booty of USC, Tebow of Florida or anything on ESPN about Troy Smith at camp.

You'd think Quinn had won something other than Miss America, or that Claussen is learning to walk on water.

Can we just get fuckin' real?

Holy resurrected thread, Batman! I thought ND had enough threads dedicated to them here. Where are all the Wolverine threads? Aren't you guys rivals, don't you play every year?

Al Gore informed the admins here that the heat from so much hate condensed in one thread could cause enough harm to his internet, escape his internet, and be an early tipping point in global warming.

Yes, I did. Thanks for noting it for me, prof!

Also, I invented gastric bypass. Not my best work there. Clin-Ton had me working on it for him. Probably should have sobered up first, eh? Sorry, Fat Chuck.
