One year deal for over $10 million is the number that Mark Sheldon heard from a USA Today reporter.

If that's the deal, I like it. If this thing goes tits up they're not on the hook long-term and/or they can trade him to another team.

REDS sign Madson!!!!!!

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Ryan Madson's one-year deal with the Reds is worth in excess of $10 million.
Quite a bargain for the Reds in many respects. It's only slightly more than what they reportedly offered Francisco Cordero and they won't have to worry about the risk of a multi-year deal. Madson and Sean Marshall should make for a pretty impressive late-game combo. Jan 10 - 11:57 PM

Mark Sheldon: http://marksheldon.mlblogs.com/2012/01/11/madson-updated-figures/

A formalized contract between the Reds and prospective new closer Ryan Madson might take several days.

A source told MLB.com on Wednesday that Madson will get a one-year guaranteed contract that pays him $6 million in 2012 with an $11 million option for 2013 that carries a $2.5 million buyout. So that?s $8.5 million guaranteed. Some of the money will be spread out over four years.

One of the issues holding up a deal being formalized is that Madson is on vacation and has yet to be scheduled for a physical. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty is currently attending the owner?s meetings in Phoenix and could not be reached for comment.

Very good deal and just good old fashioned lucky timing for the Reds on this one.

What I'd do from here (also on RZ)

Stubbs to Atlanta for Prado and Jurrjens. I'd throw in prospects if ATL would send cash or just to make the deal happen.

Prado gives you the top of the order bat, position flexibility and can maybe slide to 2B if/when BP walks. Jurrjens gives you another strong SP. Both are due to get ARB expensive but under team control for next 2 years.

Slide Heisey to CF and now you can still have Homer Bailey/Chapman/Francisco/Frazier in any combination for depth or further trade ammo.

Ryan Madsen is also there in FA but speculation has him maybe going to the Red Sox? Pull in Madsen and keep Chapman in the middle of the rotation, if possible, would be very nice. No giving up draft picks for Madsen either since he's Type A.

Yes! My God, Yes! Finally got one that I wanted back in a Reds uniform. Awesome deal as well. Mad Dog is back!

With the Madsen signing, I think this puts Chapman right were I was hoping he'd end up. I want Chapman to be the lock down setup man (our 8th inning pitcher).

Which gives him another season to prepare for a starting role, which should be a wide open competition next off-season.

You might be able to swing a deal for Jurrjens. Have heard some chatter that the Braves have considered parting with him for a while now. who knows if this is a good thing though, the Braves have a history of knowing exactly when to let somebody go

I think Chapman will be going for starter this year, wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Louisville
