this was a 1 year rental from the start, there's no way they can afford choo

They'll have $14m off the books between Arroyo and Masset. Cingrani will take Arroyo's spot and the addition of Broxton makes Masset expendable. Keeping Choo (and Homer) may be doable. This real problem will be Latos next year.

The real issue will be Latos and Bailey not only next year, but in the coming 2-3 years. Homer is arbitration eligible next year, which will eat into the 14 mill that we have coming off the books and Latos still has 1 yr of arbitration in 2015. Homer then hits FA in 2015 and Latos in 2016. Locking up Choo, who will command somewhere around a 5 yr deal worth 70 million, maybe more b/c of Boras, would likely preclude us from signing certainly Latos long term, and who knows, if Bailey keeps pitching well it might prevent us from also locking him up long term. We also have Cueto coming off the books in 2015 to consider.

I hope we can somehow find the money to lock Choo up, and we probably have it, but it will come at the cost of losing Latos and probably Homer. All of the above is complicated by the fact that Hamilton is struggling big time in AAA.

...And by the fact that they turned a young starter with a high ceiling into a fucking closer.
