Reynolds fired from Baseball Tonight

Add another "liked Harold" to the list; I think he was one of the most analytical of the former ballplayers who are now on-air pundits.
I'll add my name to the list of those surprised that he was ousted.
Word on the street is that this firing was related to sexual harrassment charges that followed him around like a lost puppy.
Damn that Stephen A. Smith, he can't take a joke.

Add me to the list, He was one of the few I could listen to. Not to mention his friendship with Junior, which added alot to the mix. I'm not looking forward to his replacement, another show I won't be able to watch. Espin has serious issues IMHO...

Does anyone else have a problem with ESPN not giving a reason for Reynolds' firing? I find it awfully hypocritical that they do not have to give a reason to suddenly fire one of their best analysts (IMHO) in the middle of the baseball season, but yet any talking head on their network can just spew unsubstantiated rumor and innuendo about any sports topic that comes to mind (i.e. OSU and MoC gate). I hope Fox Sports can somehow get their act together when it comes to sports news because I am sick and tired of relying on ESPN for my sports info.

Maybe they are protecting him from embarassment.

I mean if the guy got caught wacking off at the local Sizzler, I'm sure we're not about to hear Karl Ravech making an announcement at the top of the newscast explaining Harold engaging in a little hand boogie leading to his termination.

Ranking of baseball-related dumbasses currently employed by ESPN:

1. Joe Morgan
My favorite Morganism is when someone asks Joe's opinion of baseball issue de jour and Joe tells people that he's not in a position to give an opion. Riveting analysis by a baseball expert.
2. Joe Morgan
My second favorite Morganism is when Joe is asked about the performance of a particular player (such as "Joe, do you think Albert Pujols will win the home run crown this year?), and Joe responds by saying something like "I haven't talked to Albert in a while. I don't know what his mindset is like right now...I don't know if he's thinking about hitting home runs or hitting base hits."
3. John Kruk
"Randy Johnson will win 30 games this year." "I think Cliff Lee is the best left-handed pitcher in the league."
4. Steve Phillips
There's a reason he's unemplyed.

Harold Reynolds is WAY down the list. Like others have said, I think he added some value to Baseball Tonight. Let's all go to bed tonight and say a prayer that they don't include any more Joe Morgan commentary on this show. On a more serious note, let's hope Peter Gammons gets healthy and back to work on the set.

:slappy:

Great Post.

BTW, am I the only that's creeped out by Joe Morgan's yellow eyes?

Baseball is boring as fuck, and baseball highlights are enough to make me want to rip my nuts off with rusty pliers, but I liked Reynolds. Sometimes I would turn on baseball tonight to help me fall asleep, and I was always thinking they should give Reynolds his own show and kick Stephen Assmith to the curb. That being said......

Why should they protect him from embarassment? Wasn't it embarrasing when Michael Vick's "Ron Mexico" situation came to light? Pretty sure I read about that on ESPN.com.
Wasn't MoC's arrest embarrasing? Michael Irvin's crackpipe....Darryl Strawberry, Pete Rose, Brady Quinn sleeping with Jeff Szjiureijuaimcainmcimardia etc.
These "TV personalities" play in celebrity golf outings, softball games etc. and some of them (Stuart Scott) have tried very hard to make themselves into celebrities....they should have to deal with the shitty side of it too. Not only that, Reynolds is a former major leaguer.....he shouldn't get a pass from ESPN....but they suck ass, so he does.

I was watching Sportscenter with my fiancee last night. They came on and read the statement about ESPN confirming that Reynolds had been let go, but no other information was available at this time, and no one could be reached for comment. My fiancee looks and me and she says.....ummm aren't we watching espn? seems like they should know what the hell is going on at their own place.

By the way has anyone seen the new sports report type show the fox sports ohio now shows? decent, and whats nice is all they do is show highlights. :)

Am I the only one who liked him?

I've always really liked him. I liked that he focused so much on what a player should do in certain situations, and the little things that change how a player has to react (mostly on defense).

He seemed, to me, to speak well and speak about things others than "HRs" and "for the team" etc. etc. etc.

Oh well. . .

Actually, part of the humor of the Ron Mexico fiasco was the fact that all of the "reputable" news outlets did not carry the story. One of the most blatant examples of politics affecting how the news is reported, and it was just a sports story.
