Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

I don't remember RR asking White to masquerade as a passer, or go under center.
The WVU offense still looks mostly the same as it always did. Stewart made a few changes, he didn't suddenly implement the West Coast offense. They still ran the ball 52 times yesterday and had a similar run-pass split in the ECU game.

Yesterday? Most of the time. Against ECU, and especially Nova? Nope. They asked Pat to sit back and find a way to throw the square peg through the round holes. This worked against woeful Nova, but failed miserably against the upstart Fighting Holtz's.

Don't believe me?

What Happened to Pat White’s Roll Out Run/Pass Option? | WV Mountaineer Sports
After watching the game against East Carolina I have to ask Coach Stew and Coach Mullins why Pat isn?t rolling out? I was waiting for Pat?s roll out run/pass option all day against the Pirates and it just wasn?t there. For some reason the staff looks to be trying to turn Pat into a pocket passer that draws up the middle. The problem is that this is the offense you run if you have an immobile QB. As we all know White?s ability as a roll out passer/runner is his bread and butter and is exactly why he?s a Heisman candidate. There isn?t a better roll out QB in all of college football. For the coaches to change that after 3 seasons is going to hurt the offense and make Pat uncomfortable and this was visible all day against East Carolina. From what we all heard in the offseason is that the offense was going to keep the spread and just pass a little more. Well against East Carolina that wasn?t what we saw. It was a completely different offense than what we?ve seen for 3 seasons. Why aren?t we 5-wide spreading out the defense and rolling out? This will open up the middle for Devine and this is exactly how the Mountaineers won the Fiesta Bowl.
There are others, that was just the easiest to find.

In 1918, tOSU was 0-3 in conference play, but Chicago was 0-5.

In 1947, tOSU finished last with a 1-4-1 record. It's the only time that has ever happened.

TSUN is a little more familiar with finishing last in the Big Ten.

In 1934, they went 0-6 and finished last. Hello, Gold Pants.

In 1936, they went 0-5 and finished last behind 0-4 Wisconsin.

In 1962, they went 1-6 and finshed last behind 1-5 Indiana.

Amusing and pleasant as this may be, anyone who seriously believes Indiana is stronger than Michigan at this moment needs real help.

I can't believe HTM hasn't come around yet to discuss Boone's comments about the coaches' demeanor in practice lately. :p
JT screaming at the O-Linemen? Lichter running them up and down 315 'til they puke?

Has Boren transferred yet?

Rodriguez's patience wearing thin

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Five weeks into his first season at Michigan, Rich Rodriguez's patience is beginning to wear thin.
Two days after the Wolverines surrendered 45 points in a lopsided home loss to Illinois, Rodriguez took his team to task, again characterizing Michigan's play as soft.
And while Rodriguez insisted the Wolverines' lack of toughness extended to all phases of the game, a Michigan defense -- which was expected to be the team's foundation -- finds itself in need of an immediate change.
"It's a physical ballgame, and there comes a point in time when you have to play physically," Rodriguez said Monday at his weekly press conference. "You can't catch people. You can't allow them to block you. You've got to want to block them. It's not that they're not trying, but unless we become a tougher football team mentally and physically, we'll have a lot of problems."
After Michigan (2-3, 1-1 Big Ten) jumped out to a 14-3 lead, the Wolverines surrendered 28 unanswered points. Illinois quarterback Juice Williams -- who earned Big Ten offensive player of the week honors for his play Saturday -- began meticulously picking apart the Wolverines' experienced defense.
On many of Williams' 13 completions, Illinois wide receivers found themselves in open space -- a point of discussion during Michigan's film study session on Sunday.
The Illini "executed well, but if they would have overthrown it or underthrown it, (they) still (would have) completed it because they were so wide open," Rodriguez said.
In all, Illinois tallied 501 yards against Michigan's defense, which is giving up an average of 347.6 yards per game and has struggled to get consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Rodriguez said he believes his players may be thinking too much rather than simply playing to their potential. He said many of his team's issues can be tied to mental lapses.
Rodriguez isn't convinced the answer is to run more demanding practices. But after a practice Sunday in which Rodriguez harped on his team's toughness, his players realize the need for change.
"When you play like we played (against Illinois), you expect that to happen," said senior cornerback Morgan Trent. "(Soft) is never a word you want to hear on defense. You want to be an extremely tough defense. We take pride in that here."
Rodriguez said he won't allow for a letdown during Saturday's game against Toledo, which has recorded one victory.
"We've got two issues: We have to get ready for (Toledo), and we have to get our football team right," Rodriguez said.
Trent, one of six senior defensive starters, said he's surprised that Michigan is in a position to have its toughness questioned this deep into the season.
"We've all played before and so there's no excuse," Trent said. "I don't know what the problem was, but it's something that I promise we will get fixed. It's not an individual thing.
"It's a collective thing, and we're going to hold each other accountable."
