Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Your a little quick to be put the crown of best coach in the country on Urban aren't you?

Pete Carroll and Jim Tressel might have a beef with that. I just saying since...you know...they have been to 3 NC games and all.

Speaking of beefs, LSU fans might take issue with your count of Pete Carroll having been to "3 NC games". :wink2:

Just since I don't see the distinction as apparent in some of your posts such as this one, the "spread" offense is not the same as the "spread option" offense that is so popular these days with guys like RRod and Meyer. The basic spread (with 3-5 WRs) does not necessarily require QB running ability, and it can go hand-in-hand with the shotgun.
Assuredly it is the case that a spread offense can be run featuring a QB in the gun. Certainly, the spread is distinct in application from the spread-option. The point was that recently the TSUN posters would consistently comfort themselves by repeating the Mallett - shotgun - therefore spread mantra, for which no clear citation before RR at TSUn became fact can be found. After RR to TSUN all the citations are self-referencing - board to board if you will. It is no coincidence that Texas High's style of play was consistently referred to as Pro-style, in fact as Pro-I in other citations I can bring forth. Further, one of those citations, from Mallett's 2005 campaign, talks of how odd it would be for Texas High to come out in some kind of spread.

Texas High ran pro-style or Pro-I and Mallett took some snaps, but not all, from the shotgun.

Urban Meyer completely out-coached and out-classed Jim Tressel in the National Championship game last year.

Regardless of BKB's voucher of you, this statement alone renders you a complete idiot.

What, praytell, happened in last year's NC game that was a byproduct of poor class on Tressel's part?

Furthermore, it's interesting to note that you completely ignored sangdk's rebuttal of your reponse to the article he originally posted. That silence speaks volumes when it comes to debate decorum.

Anywhoo, I highly doubt Rodriguez will try to get Mallett to run the spread OPTION. I mean, Mallett is a graceful and speedy runner, but he's no Pat White.

Disclaimer: I was being completely facetious when I said Mallett was a graceful and speedy runner. No coach in their right mind would have a 6'7, 250 lbs QB who runs a 4.9 to run the spread option, so let's stop talking about it as if it's going to happen.

I have to think RR's hire would appeal to Sam McGuffie. Him and Carlos Brown could have big years next season, while I definitely think Kevin Grady will go down as one of the biggest recruiting busts in UM history, seeing as how I doubt he sees much time. That is unless he moves to FB, but Moundros did a pretty good job as a freshman, so that's doubtful.

Does anyone think this hire causes Manningham to reconsider entering the draft?

I don't think he meant as being classy the way you're thinking about it. I think what he meant to say was that Meyer's coaching was a cut above, or a class above, what Tressel brought to the game.

I'll respond to your explanation as such:

You, Sniper, would never (at least as you've shown here) make this sort of questionable comment. Feel free to defend the dip****. My opinion remains even though I can appreciate your effort.

Agreed, I think they will try a variation of the spread, using the fullback and running back as receivers, but I don't see the option being very possible. Mallet does have a cannon for an arm, I don't know how quick his release is, but depending they may just move with short-quick pass options up and down the field.

Does anyone think this hire causes Manningham to reconsider entering the draft?

Actually, I could see it, he had his worst game in November and unless he has a great showing against Florida he might have hurt his draft stock.

then again, playing with a new qb in a new system with a lot of new players might not be the best idea either

Quoting myself because I can and because you guys haven't answered my questions.

IF he doesn't get Terrell, what does Rod Wad (there BB, is that better?) do? Mallet can move better than most people think he can and he has a cannon. But make a spread QB out of him? I don't think so.

I think it's pretty obvious that Mallet will walk if Rod God decides to go spread option (or table spread).

If Schilling can't keep DEs out of the back field, (Gholston damn near joined the Michigan huddle) how's he going to be any help in a spread? UM may need a whole new recruiting concept for their o line.

No one has said a thing about Ron English. How long will he stay in Michigan when he didn't even get a second look?

And just to keep the OSU side of things in mind, does this mean that Henton gets more snaps in practice? As the 04/05 OSU seasons showed, it takes a while to put the spread into your play book and you get very fuzzy results when you try and run a system based on two very different QB styles.

Just askin... trollin' for opinions.

Pitt Game Phishing?

I just read this article on Bleacher Report: Link

Synopsis:

The same plane that brought Rodriguez home landed at the Morgantown airport at least two times before and the night of the WVU-Pitt.

There are no regular flights from Morgantown to Michigan.

This data sheds some new light on an already sad story.
