Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

With a lot of free time on my hands here tonight, I went back and read through the WVU/USF and WVU/Pitt game threads from last season. The primary reason I just do not see old DickRod achieving the level of success scUM fans are expecting/hoping for is that against solid defensive teams, he has been exposed as an average coach at best. When a good, fast defense can contain the running game, he falls apart and refuses or is incapable of making adjustments to neutralize that. I'm not just gathering that from reading the threads either, I watched both those games and their loss to USF in '06 as well. He is a man that is quite easy to outcoach if you have the resources, which most teams in the Big-10 do defensively. Hell, the referess blatantly tried to giftwrap that Pitt game for them and they still came up painfully short. Bring him on...

There's no undoing the RichRod mess
From the heights to the depths, nothing special
RICH Rodriguez arguably presided over the biggest choke job in college football history.
By Bob Kelly

RICH Rodriguez arguably presided over the biggest choke job in college football history.
On Dec. 1, the Mountaineers faced hated Pitt in the regular season finale.
The bookies believed West Virginia was 28 points better than the 4-7 Panthers, who decided to bus down I-79 and show up for the game anyway.
All that No. 2-ranked West Virginia needed was to beat Pitt to go on and play Ohio State for the national title, a game that not only Mountaineer diehards but also objective observers believe WVU could have won.
Imagine that. Let's bring on your national champion West Virginia Mountaineers.
On that chilly Saturday night that will live in infamy, the team stormed through Rich Rod's stupid-looking gigantic inflatable smoking helmet and onto the field as a crowd of 60,000 whooped and hollered.
At the coach's request, fans wore gold, which made a pretty sight for the ESPN audience.

This is the part that has me - as a human being - fuming.
What we do know is that Rodriguez has never bothered to pick up the phone and congratulate his successor - a man with whom he worked closely for six years - on the team's huge win over Oklahoma.
Some time before the bowl game, however, Rodriguez did manage to find time to call and share his thoughts with the Oklahoma coach.
God knows how that goes over in West Virginia.

Snake - and slime - pure and simple.

I love how Michigan fans can't possibly fathom the possibility that maybe Michigan won't want him around in a few years.

What other choice do they have?

If he fails, their new coach is left with system players and basically a ground-up rebuilding job. That would be glorious.

I was praying for Less Miles to be hired by Michigan...I guess we will have to wait till 2011. RR is gonna get a huge dose of reality this year. He has been upgraded from J.V. to varsity. If Michigan wins 8 games this year he deserves B10 COY. I could see Michigan losing up to 8 games. IMO MSU breaks the Michigans win streak and we extend ours to 5.

Jim Brandstatter: On Rich Rodriguez not being a natural 'Michigan Man', the U-M/MSU rivalry and more

FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES ? July 7, 2008
U-M football announcer Jim Brandstatter recently sat down with Hondo Carpenter to talk about a number of Michigan football-related topics. Here is a transcript of the interview:

On Rich Rodriguez?s work thus far:

?I think he?s done a great job since he?s been here. He has embraced the Michigan tradition, he?s embraced the former athletes and former players and I think he?s fit right in and he?s understanding what it is in Ann Arbor and what it means to be the head coach of the University of Michigan football team. I think he?s done a great job and I think Michigan?s going to do well this year, unlike some other experts.?

On Rodriguez not being a ?Michigan Man?:

?In the 100 years of Michigan football, there have only been three ? up until Rich Rodriguez ? non-Michigan guys to come in. Those three were Fielding Yost, Fritz Crisler and Bo Schembechler. And I would say they?ve done pretty well, so I don?t think that?s necessarily a criteria. What you want is a guy who comes in and embraces what Michigan stands for, and I think Rich Rodriguez has done that.?
