Coach Daniels has been hospitalized and underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure, per the ozone's main page.

Have a quick recovery, Coach.

Dear goodness, between him and Bollman maybe they need to look into the diets of the staff as well as the players. I would think that they should also (regardless of recent problems) look into some form of stress control/relief for the staff.

Ohio State quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels was in the Ohio State University Medical Center last night after suffering chest discomfort earlier in the day, an athletics department spokesman said.

Daniels, 63, complained of pain in his chest at the beginning of the OSU coaches’ summer youth camp session yesterday morning. He was transported to the hospital, where he underwent a heart catheterization procedure.

He is expected to remain in the hospital for several days and undergo further testing.

Other details pertaining to Daniels’ condition were not released, per the wishes of his family.

Daniels’ situation comes on the heels of offensive coordinator Jim Bollman undergoing heart bypass surgery in late May. Bollman, 51, is recovering but said a couple of weeks ago he is making strong progress and expects to be back before the Buckeyes open preseason camp in six weeks.

Coach Jim Tressel did not want to comment on Daniels’ situation yet, the spokesman said.

Daniels is an original member of Tressel’s staff, hired in 2001. Along with his quarterback coaching duties, he is the passing game coordinator.

His son Matt is a sophomore walk-on fullback.

An update from the Ozone.

theozone.2006/Summercamp

Coaching Staff Health Update: The OSU coaching staff has been hit by a rash of illnesses of late, including potentially serious heart problems for both Offensive Coordinator Jim Bollman and Quarterbacks Coach Joe Daniels. According to OSU running backs coach Dick Tressel, there is good news on Jim Bollman.

"He didn't actually have a heart attack," said Tressel. "He's back home and says he is walking about three miles a day now. He was here at camp for one day. He's the kind of guy that it will be hard to keep away from here. He's got good color and he's chomping at the bit."

Daniels, however, remains hospitalized and it is believed that he did in fact suffer a heart attack.

Some good news front page of the Ozone:

According to current Buckeye Matt Daniels, son of OSU coach Joe Daniels, his father is home and is doing well. Matt told us last Thursday that Joe was feeling well enough to try to get in a little golf on Friday. That's good news.

Ohio State assistant has cancer

COLUMBUS - When Joe Daniels was taken from the Ohio State coaches’ offices to a hospital last month, it was thought he had a heart attack.

Daniels, Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach and a veteran NFL assistant who coached Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, didn’t have a heart attack. He has cancer, according to Buckeye Head Coach Jim Tressel.

“We’ve got a plan, and Joe is getting back to work and getting into it,” Tressel said over the weekend.

“He’s back working half days and will probably only be able to work half days as he goes through treatment for some time.”

Tressel was not specific about Daniels’ cancer. However, doctors ran tests to see if the 63-year-old Daniels had heart problems. Heart patients are put on blood thinners, and the blood thinners allowed doctors to see two tumors bleeding.

Daniels was the second Ohio State assistant coach who complained of chest pains this offseason. Offensive Coordinator and offensive line coach Jim Bollman experienced chest pains while on a recruiting trip to Canton South High School. Bollman drove himself back to Columbus and underwent bypass surgery May 27.
