  • Don't know where else to put this, but a coaching giant passed yesterday following a battle with early onset dementia. She was only 64.

    1098-208, .841
    8 National Championships
    16 SEC Championships
    16 SEC Tournament Championships
7 x NCAA Coach of the Year
Naismith Coach of the 20th Century
    2012 Presidential Medal of Freedom

    That's quite a resume.

Pat Summitt, the winningest coach in Division I college basketball history who uplifted the women's game from obscurity to national prominence during her 38-year career at Tennessee, has died. She was 64.

With an icy glare on the sidelines, Summitt led the Lady Vols to eight national championships and prominence on a campus steeped in the traditions of the football-rich south until she retired in 2012.

Her son, Tyler Summitt, issued a statement Tuesday morning saying his mother died peacefully at Sherrill Hill Senior Living in Knoxville surrounded by those who loved her most.

Only 64. That is very sad. Thoughts and prayers to her family.

I can remember about 10 or so years ago when Rutgers hired Vivian Stringer away from Iowa and paid her a ridiculous salary. I do not know if they ever offered Pat that job or not but if they did not they were fools.

    18 Final Four Appearances, too.

Very sad. One of the greatest of all time.

What a sad day. Condolences and prayers to Pats family and loved ones.

I just saw on ESP(e)N(is) that Pat had a 100% Graduation rate. WHAT? 100%! MY God! Forget about her coaching accomplishments and molding of players. This GREAT lady was a molder of successful young women of all races, shapes, and sizes, probably moreso than any "Coach" in the history of sports.

RIP Pat. Your success on the basketball court was amazing, coming in a close second to the positive role model you were to so many young females in this country.

    Peace
