Tribute

It just goes to show you that not all the great Buckeyes played football.

Nice touch SS with pink buckeye leaf.

This really stood out on the white helmet.

This is one look I would like to see in some future games. Just a change of pace. Silver Bullets should keep on firing, however.

Go Buck........see you in Pasadena!

RIP...I didn't know Stefanie but met Chris several times through a charitable event I helped manage in C-bus. Great guy.

My heart was heavy this weekend - praying hard for Stefanie and Chris and their 4 children.

I think Tressel & tOSU, ABC, GameDay, the Lions all deserve kudos for the classy manner in which they handled this.

I'd like to see the University sell those tribute stickers and donate the proceeds to Mrs. Spielman's foundation. I would proudly display one on my car.

Same here. Maybe someone here on BP could do it and then we could make a donation from the site from what was sold on the stickers?

That is a great idea. Seriously, you should send this into the Athletic Dept and see what happens. I would definitely buy one.

That's an awesome idea. Who here (and I know that there are a few among us) who can make that kind of call to the right person?

Great idea.

Nice post. I was thinking of posting the same thing last night. I really think that if somehow this idea got to Stefanie and Chris" families that it would certainly meet their approval. If anything positive could possibly come out of her passing it could be in terms of $$ for breast cancer research. Not only reproducing these stickers and selling them, but how about something like producing T-Shirts with the ""SS" and the pink Buckeye leaf, and having an annual awareness/fund-raiser walk where participants would wear these T-Shirts. There are a ton of possibilities here for funds to be raised in the Buckeye Nation for the cause that this wonderful woman stood so strongly behind. Would love to see someone grab these ideas and run all over Breast Cancer with them.

Peace

Money Spielman raised being put to work

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Michael Tweedle met Stefanie Spielman just once.

In September at a breast-cancer treatment center in Dublin, she presented him with a white lab coat stitched with his name and his new academic title: Stefanie Spielman Chair in Cancer Imaging.

"She was just going in for her seventh clinical trial," he said. "I'd never heard of anyone having seven experimental therapies. She was smiling and happy and serene.

"She said to me that what I did was extremely important and that every woman depends on researchers like me finding a cure for the disease. I assured her that was my goal, too. That's always been my goal."

From 1999 until she died on Thursday, Spielman raised $6.5 million to help breast-cancer research and patients at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital.

Of that money, $1.5 million is set aside in an endowment to fund the Stefanie Spielman Chair. Tweedle is the first to draw a salary and research funding from the endowment, which is designed to ensure that there will always be someone doing breast-cancer research in Spielman's name at Ohio State University.

Tim Ramsayer of New York, who grew up with Stefanie Spielman, watches a video of her during calling hours at the Longaberger Alumni House. About 2,000 people paid their respects yesterday and offered condolences to the family at a memorial service.

Visitors were given pink Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research bracelets along with pink roses in Stefanie Spielman's memory.

The exchanges, though fleeting, left lasting impressions. Three breast-cancer survivors who attended public calling hours for Stefanie Spielman yesterday warmly recalled the moments they'd shared with their champion.

Edna Jasper encountered Spielman at a Target store 10 years ago. The Grandview Heights resident approached her to share the story of her lumpectomy, not knowing how Spielman might react.

"I told her she was my hero," Jasper, 61, said through tears. "And she was super-, super-nice to me. She told me if I ever needed to talk, she would be there for me."

Cindy Espenschield remembered joking with Spielman at a cancer fundraiser about the uniqueness of their hairstyles, short from the effects of chemotherapy.

"She didn't know me from anyone else," said Espenschield, 53, of Marysville, "But she made me feel so comfortable."

Go to the link below for Pepsi's Refresh Project and vote for the Stronghearts Project. If this gets enough votes, Pepsi will contribute $50K to get Stefanie's childrens book published. It need to be one of the Top 10 ideas for the month. It is currently ranked 26th.

Stuff that ballot box, folks.

Publish a children's book to explain the effects of cancer to children | Pepsi Refresh Everything

Overview

Before Stefanie Spielman, wife of NFL great Chris Spielmen, lost her 10 year battle with breast cancer, she authored a book entitled "Breast Cancer Boo Boo". The book chronicles the experience of a mother?s breast cancer through the eyes of her children and is intended to help children better understand and deal with the effects of cancer.

Stefanie's dream was to see this book published and distributed to children who had a loved one fighting this terrible disease. Unfortunately, Stefanie lost her battle before she could see the book published and distributed, however, Chris and many of Stefanie's friends committed to publish this worthy book through their cancer caregivers association called Strong Hearts ---- a tribute to the strong bond that Chris and Stefanie maintained throughout her battle with breast cancer and his resolve to be her cancer caregiver.
