Rock Band/Guitar Hero Thread

cool. Thanks for the info. I just put a bid in on Rock Band 2 on Ebay. I'm currently the high bidder at 13.50. Shipping and Handling is like 22 bucks though. But it comes with:

Game (with case and manual)
Guitar
Strap
Guitar Dongle
Mic
Drums
Pedal
Drum Sticks
Drum Dongle

seems like a good deal. Hope I get it. Still an hour left in the bidding war, so we'll see

Nice finds. I'm not sure what version of the instruments that you bought, but the original drum pedals were well known for breaking down over time (It turns out that plastic isn't that durable, go figure). My buddy was successful in glueing and screwing a metal plate in place to fix his, but the new ones seem to be in better shape.

When Rock Band 3 hits shelves on October 26, Bob Marley & The Wailer's "Get Up, Stand Up" will be playable on the disc. But it won't be Marley's Rock Band debut -- according to a commercial spotted on VH1 Classic, the musician's greatest hits record, Legend, will be available for download on September 21.

While Harmonix and MTV Games have yet to officially announce the downloadable content, these are the tracks that appear on the CD release of the album, and (in theory) should be available for download by month's end:

"Is This Love
"No Woman, No Cry"
"Could You Be Loved"
"Three Little Birds
"Buffalo Soldier"
"Stir It Up"
"One Love/People Get Ready"
"I Shot the Sheriff"
"Waiting in Vain"
"Redemption Song"
"Satisfy My Soul"
"Exodus"
"Jamming"

Yeah, my wife, buddy, and his gf still play when we hang out. He still plays in his free time, I'm usually playing other games though. We'll probably end up getting RockBand 3. We've got almost 10 GB worth of songs downloaded over the years...I should know, I just upgraded my PS3 hard drive from 60 GB to 500, RockBand data is huge.

Correction, it's well over 10 GB. Currently at 13 GB and I still haven't exported the old RB1 songs.

I picked up Rockband 3 and a keyboard as well, don't plan on picking up the guitar though. I've got a real guitar, and anything more than a 5 button RB piece of plastic is kind of silly imo if it isn't real. I'd rather continue to learn how to really play.

As far as the keyboard, it's not too bad. I tried playing Pro Keys on Expert right out of the box, nearly beat Bohemian Rhapsody on my second attempt. However when I dropped down to regular Keys it took several attempts. Most of that was because the layout is confusing, every 5 keys or so are broken up by the colors, so it makes you think you just hit any of those 5 sets of keys for "blue." Not the case. After I figured out the colors they have on the keyboard don't mean jack, it wasn't too bad. Most songs I can already play on expert regular keys, save for a few nasty ones (I think 25 or 6 to 4 was one). You can play guitar with the keyboard too, and let me tell ya hammer ons and pull offs are even easier, yet chords take some time getting used to (And realizing that your thumb isn't useless now).

Rockband 3 by itself it pretty good. They changed up the way they do things, you can swap out instruments at any time during setlists now. The Road Challenge has kind of replaced the Band Career mode, and Career now involves unlocking crap. I've only got two real beefs with the game right now. First, they don't have the Hulk Hogan hair option like they had in Rockband 2 (Small potatoes, but that was my favorite custom character). Second, the mic overdrive currently is borked. There are times you can blow into the mic, yell, curse, whatever and it won't engage, but it works fine in the other Rockband games (Seems to be a known issue people have been complaining about, probably a patch coming sometime). Other than that, the game is pretty good. If you do the Road Challenge you may end up playing a lot of the same songs multiple times, but it's kind of unavoidable.

FYI, for anyone wanting to export RB2 songs into RB3, they did it a little different this time around. Rather than buying an "Export key" to continue using those licenses, you have to input a code from the back page of your RB2 instruction manual into a website, which generates another code for you. You then have to pay $10 this time around to continue to use those licenses, then you get to download them all in one large file, no exporting from the RB2 disk. Stupid.
