Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

THINK, Before You Speak

Don't know if a thread on this already exists, if it does, then feel free to move this.

Anyway, after last nights inductions I once again had to suffer through a p.issed off day once again without "The Guess Who" in the Rock Hall.

Does anyone know what the criteria is for induction? I realize these guys were around in the heyday of great music in the late 60's to early 70's with a ton of great bands out there. Are they victims of their timing?

"American Woman" is one of the best songs of all time, period. Walk into any Bar in the USA tonight that has it on their Jukebox, and it's gonna get played,, probably more than once. Burton Cummings has one of the best voices I've ever heard in any genre of music. Their other great songs like "Laughing" "These Eyes" No Sugar Tonight" "Undun" "No Time" "Share The Land" and 'Hand Me Down World" were all songs I grew up as a young kid listening to, and loving. But, my favorite of all time is "Raindance" which made absolutely no sense to me but doesn't every 50ish+ guy out there remember the lyric 'Where'd You Get The Gun , John?"

Sorry for babbling on, but to see "The Beatie Boys" and "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" inducted who contributed absolutely nothing to Rock, in my opinion,
makes it even harder to see Burton and the boys left out once again.:mad1:

Peace

I wouldn't worry about it. The Hall is obviously great for the city of Cleveland, but it's also super lame and bad for rock-n-roll. It's a museum. Museums are the opposite of rock-n-roll. It's a chance for past-their-prime bands and their hangers-on to overstate each others' importance and congratulate each other for it. As somebody who cares deeply about music, I don't plan to ever step foot in the place. In my IMO a person can can better get in touch with the heritage of rock-n-roll by making themselves a regular at their favorite record store and by paying attention to who their favorite artists say they listen to.

Halls of fame are great for sports - it preserves a history of great moments and great players that are here and then gone before you know it. Music has no need for that kind of preservation though. Great bands live forever through their recordings. You don't need to go to a museum to find out how great a musician was - just put on a record, CD or mp3 and it's right there.

I'll agree the "rock and roll HoF" has become a more of Who was popular in music 25 years before the induction class. Never realized KISS wasn't in. It will be really interesting in 5 or 6 years (when the early 90's bands become eligible) to see who gets in. I agree with JLB but it is neat to see some of the memorabilia and the other "artifacts" from that era.

Someone asked about the criteria to get into the Rock HoF. There is no criteria besides how many years from debut to induction. If there were actual criteria, then half of those inducted so far would never have been, and those who have been snubbed would be in. It is a popularity contest with the voting committee members and that is basically it.

One of the reasons KISS isn't in and probably won't get in is because Gene Simmons takes every chance he can get to speak out against it and claim the band doesn't need it to remain credible with its fan base.

And he's probably right. Still would be nice to see them in.

This won't be a hall of fame until KISS is officially recognized and let in. How can you let Grandmaster Flash, the Beastie Boys, and others in before KISS?

The fact that Grandmaster Flash and the Beastie Boys are in and Rush, KISS, and The Guess Who aren't simply proves that it's not really the "Rock & Roll" Hall of Fame.

^^THIS^^.. I really hate how some of these bands actually get labeled as Rock & Roll when they are nothing but mainstream pop bands...

The voters hate prog rock. Seriously.

That being said the biggest travesty is that Joan Jett has not been inducted. Yes she rocked (and still rocks) harder than Rush or KISS.

Thank you for not mentioning the Guess Who in this sentence, because really, their primary problem is that they suck.
