Ron Artest (a/k/a Metta World Peace)

DaytonBuck

I've always liked them
One off-season, while still playing for the Chicago Bulls, Ron Artest applied for a job at Circuit City. On the job application he wrote down "NBA player" as his last job and used Bulls president Jerry Krause's name as a reference. And he did it all just so he could get the employee discount on home electronics.

Circuit City?! Good lord. It's clear to me now that I should offer executive shopping and product consultation services for people (mostly athletes) who have more money than notion of what's worth having when money isn't an issue.

I know the difference between Frette and Wamsutta, Martin Logan and Polk, etc., is there a job market for personal executive buyers? I'd do that. Get paid to spend someone else's money.

I really don't know why I'm rambling about this. It's late and I need more pills.

Odd semi-related factoid. Quite a few pro athletes buy their home audio/visual equipment from Progressive Audio right in Columbus. Considered in many nationwide circles as a Mecca for such (high end) things. Go Cbus!

There actually is a job market for that, not sure how to get it. On one of those numerous poor quality celeb programs on cable I think it was on E there was a guy whose job was to help people pick, purchase, and equip high end cars.

The more I think (jokingly) about a job like that, the less attractive I think it would actually be. At least after the initial novelty of irresponsibly spending gross amounts of other people's money wore off. Well okay, 'irresponsibly' is a subjective and irresponsible term, but you know what I mean. I do, however, seem to have a natural predilection to knowing what's "good" (another insanely subjective term, and open to even more differences in taste) though, despite not having the means (or even real desire) to acquire it all. I think it comes from the miserable trait of measuring everything against the top of the scale. Sucks, that.

I guess in some ways that would be basically what an interior decorator does

Yeah. I suppose the big difference is/would be that a decorator will try and hide electronics. An electronics buyer might concern themselves with aesthetic, but not at the expense of quality of experience. Relative of course to the needs of the client.

For example, I'd be happy to recommend (and even order/arrange) Frette (as an example for the sake of congruity, there are other great options here) sheets, but would want little to no part in deciding whether Mr. Artest would like them in the taupe, white, sage or sunflower.

Ron Artest

It's interesting that Ron Artest wants to be traded and lists Cleveland as a possible destination. I don't think there is anyway the Pacers would send him to a rival even if they could work out the players in the deal.

Throwing all that out the window what do you think and Artest trade to Cleveland would take on both sides?

Cleveland gets- Artest, Bender (out forever it sounds like)

Pacers get- Jackson, Gooden, Newble or Snow

If I were Cleveland I wouldn't give up Varejao and I would prefer not to give up Jackson, but he would probably be the cornerstone of the deal since Bird likes him. If the above trade went through I think the Cavs would need to move Hughes to PG and Lebron to SG to fit Artest in at SF, which is why I would rather get rid of Snow than Newble. Pavlovic would have to comeback big from his injury to be the backup SF although they could probably just shift players around and put in Jones at PG. Artest could also be plugged in some at PF in the current roster. There wouldn't be room for Snow or Newble if Artest was added to the roster IMO.

If I were the Pacers and the Cavs offered Varejao and Jackson for Artest I would take it. Otherwise it depends how much they want to get rid of Artest.

I don't think he would come to Cleveland for one reason and that is b/c he is unhappy about not being the main scorer in Indy. If he came here he would be fighitng for points between 4 other guys.

Now if he didnt have the baggage and was level headed I would be all about bringing probably the best defender in the game, but there is too much of a risk.

We get Newble back soon and while he isnt very good on the offensive end he is tough on the other end.
