Rugby (6N, Rugby Championship, IRB 7s, etc.)

Six Nations started up last week. Ireland and Wales were the favorites, but the English gave the Micks a proper rogering.

So after the first round, it's Wales, Scotland and England at 1-0 and Ireland, France and Italy at 0-1.

This week, it's:

France @ England (English fans will definitely be bringing the lulz in the stands)
Wales @ Italy (should be a layup win for the Dragons)
Ireland @ Scotland (the Mc's versus the Mac's)

Any thoughts from our Rugby cognoscenti? @Steve19 @wadc45

Since I’m already in this thread, venting to ensue in 3...2...1: How does Ireland lose handily to England and stay at #2 while Wales BEATS France and drops from #3 to #4? Ireland should be 4, England 3, and Wales 2.

Jesus. I'm still baffled that Wales is a 2 seed in their WC pod to a not very good Aussie team. Oh well, all I care about is winning the 6 Nations and heading into the World Cup with some momentum. Are you a Wales fan or just pissed at the injustice of their not getting any respect?

Yeah, I’m a fan of their rugby and tradition. They’re on a helluva run at the moment. If they win this weekend it will be eleven in a row which I believe is a Welsh record. For awhile there in the past few years it was like they were to the rest of the 6 Nations like tOSU to the rest on the B1G. They were the only side competitive with the Southern Hemisphere teams.

The WC pools are actually pretty favorable for the British-Irish. All four should get into the quarterfinals. Scotland's really the only one that I think isn't a lock. After that, the Irish have shown that they can beat the Kiwis. Wales is as strong as I can ever remember them being, and it looks like the English have unfucked themselves. I'm all in on Wales, but if that's not going to happen, I'd still like to see one of the others put an end to the Southern Hemisphere's reign.

I missed Wales/France, but watched Scotland/Italy and Ireland/England. It was just the first week, but I was as impressed by Scotland as I’ve ever been, but they lost focus and I’m inclined to agree that the Cup will be rough for them. I’m a little concerned about Ireland. Can’t decide whether England is just that much better this year or if the Irish have started believing their own hype. They won’t beat NZ playing like that. Love that for once the 6N has some World Cup relevance.
