Rugby (6N, Rugby Championship, IRB 7s, etc.)

46-13 with 8 minutes left. Springboks looking a lot like the good old days against an incredibly physical Pumas side.

NZ beat Argentina by 4. Australia beat Argentina by 6. Springboks have put 10 more points on the Pumas than NZ and Argentina combined.

Congrats. It's going to be the best RWC in a long time with no clear favorite and four legit contenders and probably another four that could make a serious run.

I was a little worried about today, so let's see what Wales comes out with now that they have something concrete to be playing for. I don't know what to expect from England. Jones is using the game as a final sorting out for his WC squad, so these guys definitely will have a lot to play for, but will England fall back to their tendency to ass their heads at some point in the game. In any event, no excuses for Wales. They're playing their A Team with the chance for a first ever #1 ranking on the line. They better come out like some hard, pipe-hitting motherfuckers.

Wales looked tired and slow. They didn't take the ball out wide in the first twenty minutes and I think only twice in the first half, by which time they were really behind it. I was cycling in the gym, so it was the best chance I have had to see them this closely. England looked like the Springboks in the late 1980s. Big and tough up front, a few speed guys in the back room, and playing for field position. Early on, Wales had no idea really how to handle the size difference and they took a beating. Springboks or All-Blacks would take that Wales team, as they bring size and more speed, but we will see a different Wales team in a month. Both teams took injuries in this game.

I think Wales and England will be more impressive in the RWC, but I thought they might steamroll the Boks a month ago. Now, I think both teams would get one helluva game from South Africa, who are a year away in my opinion.

I am optimistic about the Springboks because they have played two different teams in the Rugby Championship. They are peaking at the right time and actually quite well-rested. They have Argentina here next week in friendly, and I hope that no one is injured...
