S Erick Smith (Official Thread)

Urban has greatly exaggerated the "I don't redshirt" pitch. Lets hope it ends with any secondary player this coming year. I doubt ES is an early contributor but I do hope he gets in the game earlier than Bell did. Watching the Army game he just lept off the screen to me. And we need secondary help real bad. Lets get this kid up and running quick!!

In no world are all of those strictly corners, particularly Burrows.

Apple, Webb, Conley, and Lattimore (in the sense that he won't play safety...maybe offense) are. Burrows could play safety but looked awfully good at corner. In any event, my point is that it looks like we might need him more at safety.

As for safeties converted corner...good point, not sure we've had that. I think the reason would be that usually if you are recruited at safety, you're big enough that you are more likely to convert to LB than CB.

Cie Grant is probably the best example of a Buckeye player who moved to a position farther away from the ball.

In terms of the rareness of a prospect moving away from the ball to a faster position, safety should technically be in-between LB & CB.

Cie Grant moved closer to the football. (edit: after moving back first :bonk:)

Conley is 6'2 185 before his freshman season. I'd prefer to see him at corner but him growing into a star or safety seems fairly reasonable.
I seem to recall that many believed Conley would ultimately become a linebacker. Is my memory faulty (in this instance; in general I'm aware that it is).

Well, you're finally starting to pick things up here. :groove2:
