OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
Ohio State's Hines learns clearance lesson the hard way

Columbus- April Hines sat in front of the television last Saturday night, a ginger ale by her side. After an excruciating month of uncertainty and eligibility questions, she was about to watch her son, Jermale, play football for the Buckeyes.
"I was nauseated," April said. "My nerves, my heart, I was just overjoyed with emotion."
As Hines, a freshman linebacker from Glenville High, ran down to cover Ohio State's opening kickoff against Purdue, the disappointment that started on Aug. 30 and ran through the Hines family was forgotten. Caught up in a rare eligibility situation that even today his parents don't understand, Hines was kept from participating in any team activities - games, practices or film study - when a red flag was raised about his eligibility two days before the start of the season. He wasn't cleared until a month later.

It's been reported that Jermale has been moved to RB. I'll just post this because I was probably the first Buckeye fan to see him play (as a sophomore RB at Berrien HS in Georgia). I said it before and I'll just say it again, I think this is a position that he can flourish at. Like I said, he has Eddie George characteristics to his game. He's a big body that has moves (and speed) in the open field.

Personally, I think this is a position he can flourish at.

Agreed. Watching his film, I was blown away by how fast he could get up and down the field. He was blowing by defenders and he made it look effortless.

If Hines really is playing running back, and the one time I saw him play on national television, I was quite impressed with his running ability, it is another testament to the "recruiting philosophy" of categorizing athletes into speed, big speed, and power types. Another versatile athlete is finding where he best fits into contributing to the needs of the team. Hines is a player, and it will be interesting to see where he makes that contribution.

Interesting.

Obviously, he is a specimen. Seeing playing time as a true freshman from the middle of the season, and being a standout at Glenville shows this.

However, I am concerned about the Devoe situation and also the Danny "Boom" Herron situation. Position changes don't come out of the blue.

I'm not sure why you think this has to do with Boom. The coaches want to redshirt him no matter what.

Watching Hines run, I see similarities to McFadden. Plus, he has some experience playing QB. I think Tressel may try something similar to what Arkansas did against LSU.

I'd like to think I keep up with what is going on with the team and incoming players but maybe I blacked out for a sec...what's up with Devoe? Is he cheating on his verbal?

It is not appropriate to talk about the Devoe situation at this time.
