S Malik Hooker (All B1G, All-American, Dallas Cowboys)

Remember that story about his mother and her tough love?

99% sure that a mother like that suggests he returns for his education.
tough love and sound financial decision-making are not mutually exclusive.

forget about sports and fandom. malik has the opportunity to take a job that will pay him at least $10,000,000 per year for 3 years. if he chooses not to take that job, then he runs the risk of never having the opportunity to take that job.

if malik played a sport like basketball where career-threatening injuries were (a lot) less likely, then i could see returning. football is violent, though. the risk is simply too great.

Thanks for this perspective Mr. Spock.

Just because his mom is tough, doesn't mean that she's dumb. I always laugh at fans who think that the best interest of players is to come back to make sure their team gets more wins. Not taking into account the low shelf life for football players and the risk of injury at the collegiate level. Get your money and school will still be there. Many tough moms saw to it that their kids skipped school for the professional ranks(Shaquille O'Neal, Carmelo Anthony, Marshawn Lynch, Lebron James, Allen Iverson, Michael Vick, etc) and all did quite well for themselves. Heck, even the guys that I can't name, if they made it to the professional ranks did a lot to help their families, and could still go back and get their degrees. Curtis Samuel has a very tough mother yet I see no one thinking he's coming back... Like @MililaniBuckeye said, the operative words are "right now". He deserves to get his shot in the NFL

I guess we will see.

Wasn't able to double check this but wiki says it's 5.

FBS: 5 – Darrent Williams, Oklahoma State, 2001–04; Deltha O'Neal, California, 1996–99; Ken Thomas, San Jose State, 1979–82; Jackie Walker, Tennessee, 1969–71[75]
I hate all these wiki type lists on the internet and all the fake news these days. That's why I stick to the facts. For example, where is the great Buckeye Giovanni Strassini on this list? The Strass had five pick sixes in his career if memory serves me correctly! With apologies to Gamble, few Buckeyes have played both sides of the ball quite like the Stass Man!

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If somebody put a briefcase filled with millions of dollars on the table, slid it forward and offered it to you, would you say no?

Malik Hooker basically said he wouldn't take the money last week when he put it out there that he's "100 percent coming back" to Ohio State next season.

Don't celebrate. Hooker is probably telling a white lie. But what he's doing makes sense.

"There are a lot of people, social media, just questioning whether I am coming back and stuff like that," Hooker said. "So that's just to answer their question for right now. I don't need a lot of people calling me or messaging me and stuff like that wondering if I'm coming back.

"Like I said, as of right now, I'm definitely coming back next year until I sit down and talk to the coaching staff and my family."

There's that phrase again: Right now.
Why Malik Hooker is probably lying about coming back to Ohio State next season
