Sam "L" McGuffie (Olympic Bobsled Team)

I think race is a factor in where white players play. Tony Dungy has talked about the "slotting" or "funneling" of white players away from rb/cb to fb/lb/s in college. I'm not saying that's the case here but its clearly a real issue. To watch McGuffie run with the ball and think he might be more valuable at another position is absurd. You want the ball in his hands as much as possible. If he came here he would compete for a starting job with the other rbs and if he wasnt good enough then he could move to the slot or wherever. But to move him pre-emptively seems odd and not at all in line with his obvious rb skills. Secondly, its hard for me to believe Tressel would promise Torrence not to recruit any other rbs. I've seen him play here in Canton and he's a fine talent but there's no guarantee he won't bust or be nothing more than average. Of course they could always move him to fullback or linebacker.

You and I are in agreement on this.

I hear people continually making out of whack excuses about why McGuffie won't cut it, how he's overrated, or how he'll have to move positions in college. Watch the tape and then take into account that he rushed for over 3,000 yards and 40+ TD's against some of the very best high school football competition in the entire country. No high school kid is a lock to become a star in college, but you have to like what you see out of McGuffie thus far. He's got good size (remember, he's only a HS JR and he's already 6'ft, 190 pounds) to go along with lightning agility, breakaway speed, unbelievable balance, great vision, and a great pair of hands. Not to mention the kid has tested off the charts at every combine/event he's been at.

People were freaking out over Noel Devine (and rightfully so) last year and he was 5'8, 170 soaking wet and he played against not the weakest competition in Florida, but not exactly the strongest either- far from it actually. Sam is 6'0, 190 and he plays against the biggest and best Texas has to offer.

BG $

6/13

By BK...Sam is still in contact with OSU but does not commit to saying he will visit unless OSU should offer.

If he comes to camp, anything could happen. If he doesn't, I think there is little chance he gets an offer.

UM is actually getting speed on offense for a change.

Mario is fast but he's leaving after this year, Arrington has decent speed but he's not overly fast, and the Mathews kid from Florida a posession receiver, better quickness than speed.

Are any of their RB's fast? Hart, Grady, and Minor aren't fast at all. That Brown kid is, but they tried to switch him to CB and I think he left the team.

In the last two days sounds like they picked up two kids from Texas that have nasty speed. Don't worry, they'll find a way to put McGuffie at CB like they do all of their fast RB's. Seems like good ol' Lllloyd needs RB's that run a 4.55 or slower. He doesn't like them 4.3-40 RB's.

If we don't offer him I want him to go to A&M or Nebraska. No way do I want him in the Big10. Anyone remember Ryan Brewer? I'm sure you all do. This seems like the same type of kid to me. Granted, he's not from Ohio so the extra incentive isnt really there but this kid can really play. He has the same type of intangibles Brewer had but he's probably faster with a bit more agility. I sure as hell don't want scum getting him and having to deal with that for 3 or 4 years.

Reading between the lines here, but I think you are going to be upset with the way this one turns out.
