  • I need to hear more about satellite radios. I am close to buying one but have read reviews that say the reception isn't great. Pioneer makes one that will require XM or Sirius service. I just want one to use to listen to college footfall when I can't sit in front of the TV. This year my daughter starts college and Saturday at 1:30 is the typical time for Ohio Northern's football game. The Bucks play at 12 and 3:00 with a few night games. The only way to catch both live is listen to the Buckeyes live while I watch the other. Satellite radio!! Anyone have any experience good or bad? I appreciate your comments.

I got Sirius last fall due to mostly to the fact that I would be in the car during all of both the YSU and Ohio games. OSU games are only available through Sirius.

Sirius also has rights to UM, the NFL, and some NBA games (I can almost never find the Cavs).

XM has the rest of the B10, MLB, NHL, and some NBA games.

I don't recall how the other college conferences are divided between Sirius & XM.

There is also a "Best of XM" package you can add to a Sirius subscription that will get you the NHL, plus the rest of the college and NBA games you don't get on Sirius. No MLB included in the best of XM, though.

Thanks Bucky for that information. I almost bought the little Pioneer (model GEX-XMP3) radio tonight and XM. I decided to shop around a bit more since the first game is still a month away, there's time to decide. I too will be in car or possibly standing in the bleachers at ONU (Ada, Ohio) during a few of tOSU games. The radio I saw was portable and also could be docked when at home. The car kits that I need would cost another $120, the radio was $229, and a years subscription to Sirius about $120. $500, all this to "listen" to the Bucks play - I need to sort this out before there's a last minute panic.

    What Radio did you purchase?

Are you sure you need satellite radio? You could just buy a cheap AM/FM radio. There are a lot of OSU football affiliates. I would think you could pick up at least one of the following stations in Ada:

    Lima...WIMA...1150... 16 miles from Ada
    Kenton...WKTN...95.3... 15.5 miles from Ada
    Findlay...WFIN...1330...24 miles from Ada

    OSU Football Affiliates

Check the link for a complete list of affiliates to see if you'll have coverage along your route.

The other option might be to buy a wireless data card & plan for your laptop, listen to the game streaming on 1460thefan.com (might cost a little money now)... and that would help with some business or remote computing needs.

To access online streaming, you would have to go through ohiostatebuckeyes.com. It is called Buckeye Vision. There are a couple different packages. The audio only package is $6.95/month.

Pretty much the cheapest I could find. I think it's called the Stratus. It only works in my car or a dock (about the size of a boombox) so that would be no good for listening form the stands.

Would the radio affiliates cover the non-home games? I suspect that these may be on ESPN radio only. Or Buckeye Vision as Buck1973 mentioned.

I saw that Boombox at Best Buy. I like it for home or office use but in the stands would be out of character for me unless I wore a lot of bling!

Yes, the affiliates also carry away games. They carry the broadcast from 1460/97.1 (which is ESPN) here in Columbus. Buckeye Vision is only needed to stream the games online.

I called the school and asked what channels they get down there. The student I talked to said her dad is also a Buckeye fan and listens to the games on a Lima station (affiliate). I think she said AM 1550. There's a local ONU station but it won't be airing Buckeye football. So, here's what I am going to do. Transfer my daughter to a college in the Cbus area, cancel her grants and award money, move her close to the Shoe, and watch the games from her dorm room.

Siriusly, pardon the pun, I think the Sirius radio I saw called the Stileto 2 would be a lot cheaper than the above. I can get music, talk, and more with that. It can even stream live from a Windows based PC if its connected. The radio is still an option as long as its AM/FM.
