Before folks just blow this off.. may I suggest we take heed... the tone and rhetoric of posters are certainly changing.. especially in the last 12 months

and since there are relatively VERY few that actually financially contribute to this site...
it won't take much more to alienate the givers from the non-givers

BP needs financial contributors

and maybe an attitude adjustment... thank you @jlb1705 for the warning shot

I come here to escape the reality of life for a few minutes at a time and just indulge in my guilty pleasure of focusing on something as stupid and pointless as football at the, temporary, exclusion of the things that really matter in this world.

IMO, we lost a lot of that as more and more people started getting into the poli forums. I venture into them now and again but generally try to keep it respectful/lighthearted or just bust balls.

What I can't believe is how nasty it gets in there. People take that shit, and themselves, much too seriously for my taste. It's mostly a right vs left, good vs evil world view where people can't just agree to disagree without it getting personal.

There are people to the left of me like @kinch, @OH10 and @ExpatAkronite whom I disagree with mostly in terms of politics and social outlooks but whom, as individuals, I respect and enjoy hearing from. Likewise there are folks like @MililaniBuckeye, @BoxCar_Willie or @buckeyemania11 who are equally far to the right of my particular views but whom I feel the same way about. (If I left anyone out it isn't a personal slight, I am just grabbing names off the top of my oft befuddled head).

The perspective I try to keep is that we are all Buckeyes and that is what matters. I am willing to put aside pretty much anything I don't care for real world, for short periods of time, to keep it socially normal with a fellow Buckeye. This is why I have zero patience for scUM fans on here (or the fact they draw breath in general but I digress).

If we lose that, or if we have lost that, then I'd personally have to reconsider what BP is all about to me. I can just go to work or turn on the news (fake or not) if I want a face-full of the issues of the day.

Worrying about recruiting, depth charts, the upcoming schedule and wishing hate on tsun, these are the things that matter & why we are here. If we can't all do those things together because somebody is carrying a grudge form the poli forums then what the fuck are we doing here? I enjoy Mili's contributions to football talk as much as I enjoy @jlb1705. If we lose either guy because of bad blood from poli forums then we are all worse for it imo.

I avoid the poli forum completely. Same reason I purged my Facebook of people that feel the need to force their political opinions down everybody's throat and attack those who disagree. Politics tends to turn people into fucking infants.

Far be it from me to cast stones about maturity when I have the emotional IQ of your average 10th grader but politics turns people into some nasty motherfuckers, I'll give you that.

We've had the purge the poli board discussion any number of times. It remains open so that politics does not spill over in to any of the other forums. Closing the poliboard will not purge people of their politics. I would encourage those who can't argue about political matters without it becoming personal, stay off the board. I agree the tone on that board has change dramatically over time, mine included, but - whatever you may think of me - it's not personal to me. I have no problem holding my political foil's hands to the fire, I also have no problem fighting fire with fire when I am attacked, but... when I read someone who I oppose on the poli board posting about football, or the Reds, or anything else, I don't even think about their political views.

So, anyway, I say again.. if you have a problem with the poli board, just stay off it. But, closing it comes with the risk that has kept the board open in the first instance, keeping politics confined to one, and ONLY ONE, area of this board.
