Okay I'll rant here: I read a book in maybe 2000 by Laura Ingraham. Yeah I'm only liberal by your standards BP Poli kids. She mentioned that prostate cancer research was something like 10% of breast cancer research. Picture yourself as a Congressman: would you vote against research for breast cancer? Do you hate women?

This is the most overfunded disease research in the world. Nobody wants to investigate a colon or a prostate.

But it's pink! It's so cute! And breasts are jiggly!

Okay I'm pissed.

Everyone loves to hate breast cancer because breasts are jiggly and fun. My step mom survived it, I get it.

But colon cancer kills more women per year and is preventable. Give me a 5K march for that.

Yeah, I have an axe to grind. But this is just stupid.

My mother died of colon cancer when she was 55

I think of her every time I see breast cancer awareness month being those that end in "Y".

The "awareness" approach is fucking stupid. Everyone on the planet is "aware" of cancer and has been so for decades. Call it what it is: Cancer research fund raising.

Isn't it more like "fund raising for the organization that raises breast cancer awareness"? I have no statistics or links, but I recall Komen is a bullshit racket. Perhaps not that bad, but not the greatest bang for your charitable buck.

Okay, one lazily googled link.

I vote to combine Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Shark Week into one single year round event

You get a hot pink wristband around a great white's neck and I'll donate

Most charities are ran for the benefit of the adminstrators of the charity, the actual wounded warriors and the like are just marketing so Wounded Warriors LLC can not earn a profit, but cycle shit loads of cash to their staff.

Note, this is not about the actual charity Wounded Warriors, they may or may not be a scam, I didn't care to research them as there is zero chance of them getting one of my dollars. When in doubt, I like to assume they are all scams though.

I originally thought this thread was going to be about the Buckeye Nation going whole hog on some new pussy to get over the Indiana scare. Oh well. I'll still do my part.

You know, since so much funding comes from the public popularity contests are going to win hands down. Breasts are more popular than assholes. So are kittens and puppies. I don't think fatalities play into the marketing at all--but that's capitalism.
