Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

There are some pretty big challenges that come with that job (the Vick saga, biggest of all) that might make a coach of Pete's pedigree want to take the job, but does anyone else see the Atlanta job as a step down from the USC job? I don't really follow the NFL much (other than my fantasy stats), so my college football bias might be making me think that USC's the better job.

Are these the same sources that said "Les Miles to Michigan?"

:sneaky: I realize this is off-topic, but I thought that ESPN commercial with Richard Simmons leading a workout session, pointing at Brutus, saying, "Check your sources, check your sources..." Was kinda funny. Anybody else catch that?

Pete would be an idiot to take that job. He is to SoCal as JT is here.

Yeah, I really can't see him taking the Atlanta job. He had the chance to get the San Diego job last year and said he wasn't interested, and that was a great gig, you have tons of talent, you're stepping into a winning situation, but he would be interested in Atlanta? whyfore? to get Blank in there and laugh at him?

On top of that, he was questioned as an able coach while in NY and NE, which is crap in my opinion, getting to the playoffs and all. Where as he is seen as a golden god in SoCal. I can't see him wanting more abuse.

All I can say is, for reasons others have noted, I respect the guy. Say what you like but he loses gracefully and doesn't speak badly about others, he's a good game day coach, and he wins. You can argue that he has the LA advantage when recruiting, but so does UCLA. Personally, I don't think he is going anywhere.

I imagine they'll pay him an obscene amount of money (way more than USC could) and give him control of all personnel decisions, basically making him the Falcons. Plus he won't have to recruit anymore, though that seems to be his strength. The Atlanta situation isn't as bad as it looks at the surface...the QB situation obviously needs fixing, but they have playmakers at other positions like Norwood and Crumpler and their lines and secondary aren't bad. It actually wouldn't surprise me if he took the job...it's a WAY better situation than the Dolphins, for example, are right now.
