</td><td width="65">Taylor</td></tr></tbody> </table> "We need to speak to him, we don't know if he's a victim, witness or suspect,'' said police spokesman Mary Walters.

The assault happened Wednesday night and shots were fired, Walters said. No one was injured.

Walters said she didn't have further details and police were still investigating.

Police have not issued an arrest warrant against Taylor.

Earlier Friday, Detective Robert Williams said "a person of interest" means Taylor could be a subject, victim or witness of an alleged crime and that the police department was looking for him.

Taylor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined comment Friday. Taylor and the Redskins didn't immediately return phone messages seeking comment.

Taylor, who wants a new contract, has been working out in Miami despite pleas from coach Joe Gibbs to join the team in voluntary workouts at their home base in suburban Washington. He signed a seven-year, $18 million deal as the No. 5 overall draft pick in the 2004 draft.

The former Miami Hurricanes standout has had a tempestuous start to his NFL career.

He has fired two agents, was fined for skipping one day of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium and was accused of spitting on a player during a game at Cincinnati, although he was not punished because the league said there was no video evidence.

He was also charged with drunken driving in October, when he was pulled over at 2:45 a.m. after attending a birthday party for receiver Rod Gardner. Those charges were dismissed in January.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I'm sorry but htf can you not know if he was the victim or the perp?
Fight maybe? Since it is an assault they are investigating, they probably just want to hear Sean's side of the story and determine whether he is the instigator, defending himself, or whatever? Not that I know anything, but I would guess some guy got "into" it with him or someone he was with and filed a report after the fact, possibly hoping for a civil suit in future? You just never know.....

I dont think we can jump to the conclusion to say what he did was similar to what Doss did, Doss fired off his guns in a public place, and Taylor is even a suspect yet..

Its looking like maybe Cleveland was smart to pass on Taylor in the draft...the guy has loads of potential but can't stay out of trouble.
Yea I agree, thank god we picked Winslow..:tic: It's looking like Roy Williams would have been the best pick right now.. And then whoever we grabbed in the second round.

Safety charged with assault, battery
ESPN.com news services

MIAMI -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, described as a "person of interest" in an assault case, turned himself in to Miami-Dade County police on Saturday, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reported. Taylor has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, and simple battery.

The assault happened Wednesday night and shots were fired, police spokesman Mary Walters said. No one was injured.

The Washington Post reported on its Web site the assault case involved a stolen car. Taylor and a friend were reportedly at the scene of a crime, but it was unclear who the stolen car belonged to and why Taylor was there. A public information officer for the Miami-Dade County Police Department told The Post that shots were fired into the vehicle.

Taylor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined comment Friday. Taylor and the Redskins didn't immediately return phone messages seeking comment.

The humorous thing is that you can take like 5 different Miami drafted players over the last couple years... and add up their Wonderlic scores, and you still might be below Alex Smith's total.

Sean Taylor charged with gun assault

MIAMI (AP) -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor turned himself in to Miami-Dade County police Saturday and has been charged in an assault that took place last week.

Police said Taylor, 22, was accompanied by his attorney, Fred Moldovan, when he turned himself in. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and simple battery.

According to police, Taylor pointed a gun at someone last Wednesday during a dispute over two all terrain vehicles he claims the victims had stolen. Taylor, who was with others, left the scene but returned about 10 minutes later and assaulted one victim with his fists. Another man, Charles Elwood Caughman, threatened and chased another victim with a baseball bat, police said.

Caughman, 19, was arrested later that day and charged with aggravated assault, police said.

Police said the Redskins organization cooperated with them during the investigation.

"We have just been made aware of a potential situation in Miami regarding Sean Taylor," said Redskins spokesman Karl Swanson. "The representatives for Taylor are keeping us informed as to the developments. There is nothing we can add to the process at this time."

Taylor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did not return a phone message left late Saturday.

Taylor, who wants a new contract, has been working out in Miami despite pleas from coach Joe Gibbs to join the team in voluntary workouts at their home base in suburban Washington. He signed a seven-year, $18 million deal as the No. 5 overall draft pick in the 2004 draft.

What's amazing is how virtually none of these guys ever get arrested while they're in college. How much 'cooperation' do you think exists between the 'Cane athletic department and the police in Miami and Coral Gables?
