SG Kameron Williams (Sayago - Uruguay)

Kam is a great get for the Buckeyes. He may be somewhat undersized for the 2, but this team needed a shooter and somebody to feed shots to. The other guys they have at guard at this point are efficient offensively but don't take a lot of shots - he could be the go-to guy for the plays they run for 3s, the next prolific 3-point shooter at OSU.

I know due to his 6'3" height and slight build (he has been reported to weigh around 160# or 170#) people will be thinking PG, but I think he will be looked at to replace WB's skill in terms of executing shooting plays (and WB's heavy shot diet), and don't forget that Matta puts a premium on having multiple guys who are great ballhandlers out there at once so even if he develops some PG skills I think he will stay at the 2.

NY2LASPORTS.COM - KAMERON WILLIAMS HEADED TO BUCKEYES
Evan Flood ? Contributing Editor - NY2LASPORTS.COM

The high level commitments continued to flow on Tuesday as Ohio State scored a big commitment in Baltimore (Md.) Mount St. Joseph 2013 Shooting Guard Kameron Williams this afternoon. Williams, who had a final five of Marquette, Miami (FL), Ohio State, Syracuse (no offer), and Wake Forest, chose the Buckeyes because of their winning tradition and player development.

?I committed because I want to win a national championship,? Williams told NY2LASPORTS.COM Tuesday afternoon. ?I felt like all of my dreams and goals can be fulfilled there.?

?They will help me become the best person and player I can be.?

Williams spoke to the entire Ohio State coaching staff today, including Head Coach Thad Matta.

?They all called me at the same time on the phone,? Williams laughed. ?Coach Matta was ecstatic.?

Williams wasn?t shy about what Buckeye fans can expect to see from him during his time in Columbus.

?I?m bringing high energy, hard work, efficiency, and buckets to the program.? he said.

With his decision over with, Williams feels relieved and can?t wait to start his career as a Buckeye.

?It feels like 1,000 pounds of weight being lifted off my shoulders,? he said. ?I?m taking great pride in becoming a part of Buckeye nation.?

He played with the Baltimore Elite program this summer.

Buckeyes land ESPN 100 SG Williams
September, 18, 2012
By Dave Telep | ESPN.com

The strength of the Class of 2013 lies in its depth at the wing position. The Ohio State Buckeyes dipped their toes in the east coast pool of talent Tuesday and accepted a commitment from ESPN 100 shooting guard Kameron Williams (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph).

Williams' commitment moves Ohio State to No. 22 in the 2013 recruiting class rankings.

ESPN 100 SG Kameron Williams committed to Ohio State over Miami.

"It feels like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders as far as the pressure and impressing people," Williams said.

Kam Williams will boost OSU on perimeter
September, 18, 2012
By Reggie Rankin | ESPN.com

The Ohio State Buckeyes' perimeter took another huge step forward Tuesday when 6-foot-3 shooting guard Kameron Williams (Baltimore/Mount St. Joseph?s) picked the Buckeyes over the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes, Marquette, Syracuse and Wake Forest. He joins in-state small forward Marc Loving (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's) to give coach Thad Matta two ESPN 100 recruits. Williams is ranked No. 52 overall and Loving is No. 57.

The Buckeyes' offense just became more lethal and versatile with these two talented wings. Williams and Loving will provide Matta with size, shooting, slashing and, in Loving's case, the ability to post up smaller defenders. They will be a great complements to each other on the wings.

Williams will entertain Buckeye Nation with his ability to score. He is a big-time shooter who can spot up on the break, come off screens and space out on the side of dribble penetration, or just go get a bucket when the play breaks down or at the end of clock situations.

Kam Williams, Mount St. Joseph guard, headed to Ohio State
By Matt Bracken The Baltimore Sun
September 18, 2012

Kevin Williams isn?t prone to making comparisons, especially when they involve his son. But the father of Mount St. Joseph guard Kam Williams perked up during a conversation one year ago with Ohio State assistant men?s basketball coach Dave Dickerson.

Dickerson, a former Maryland player and Terps assistant from 1996-2005, ?checked out [Kam Williams] and told me he reminded him of a young Juan Dixon,? Kevin Williams said. ?But with more athleticism. And better handles. And he said he saw the same passion and fire when Juan played in Kam, which is a pretty lofty comparison.?

Dickerson?s assessment didn?t end there. When Kam Williams took his official visit to Ohio State over the weekend, Dixon?s play with the Terps was a regular topic of discussion.

?He was constantly harping on it when I was down there,? said Williams, who grew up following Maryland. ?He was telling me stories about Juan Dixon at Calvert Hall, how he would score in a variety of ways. I?ve always heard the comparisons about me and him.?

Starting next fall, Dickerson will get a chance to see how apt his comparison could be. Williams announced his commitment Tuesday to the Buckeyes, selecting the reigning Big 10 co-champions over offers from Marquette, Miami, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

?I feel relieved. Very relieved. And actually excited, too, at the same time,? Williams said. ?I told [Ohio State] coach [Thad] Matta Sunday night. We were yelling. I couldn?t even understand. He was just yelling. He was ecstatic. He was excited. It?s almost like he couldn?t believe it.?

As fast as it seemed that Kameron Williams ended his recruitment, it wasn?t fast enough for the suitor he left at the altar.

Williams, a high-scoring, 6-foot-3 guard from Baltimore who made a commitment yesterday to sign a national letter of intent in November with the Ohio State men?s basketball team, said he was ready to commit a week ago to the University of Miami before his father advised him to take more time.

?He told me to wait to see another realm of the college atmosphere,? Williams said. ?He wanted me to see how another school does things so I can gauge the similarities and differences.?

So Williams held off on pledging to Miami after making an official visit there, met Ohio State coach Thad Matta during an in-home visit last Wednesday and moved up his official visit to the OSU campus to last weekend.

?They showed me what a big-time atmosphere is all about,? said Williams, who attended the football game against California in Ohio Stadium and was struck by how many people were there.

?But the thing that stood out to me was, later that night, people were still walking the streets relishing their win, slapping high fives, giving hugs. They really embrace their sports at Ohio State,? he said.

?(The coaches) also took me to (Value City Arena). I could see me playing there and all those people watching us play. My imagination just went wild.?

Matta accelerated his pursuit of Williams after another guard, Allerik Freeman of Charlotte, N.C., committed to UCLA before the Buckeyes could get him on campus last weekend. But Williams, from Mount St. Joseph?s High School in Baltimore, said assistant coach Dave Dickerson has been watching him since spring and that Matta offered him a scholarship in late July.

Rapp Around: Can Kam Fit In?

September 21, 2012
So Thad Matta decided to go hard after 6-3 shooting guard Kameron Williams of the Baltimore area and landed a commitment from the lad early this week.

I?ve had some time to look into Williams the player and assess Ohio State?s current recruiting outlook and here?s an overview of this situation:

What We Know: Williams, who attends Mount St. Joseph (Md.) HS, is coming off an outstanding summer and is considered a top-100 prospect nationally among seniors. ESPN.com has him rated at No. 52 overall in the class while Rivals.com slots him at No. 80 and CBSSports.com has a similar ranking of No. 86.

Signed his LOI today and got some high praise from Thad:
"When I first saw Kam this summer, it was kind of like, ?That?s exactly what I was looking for,? a guard that finds ways to score the basketball. He can do it in a variety of ways. He?s a great free throw shooter, he gets to the foul line, he shoots threes, he finishes, he?s very, very athletic for his size.

"A lot like Marc, he?s from a storied high school program in Baltimore."
