Skeete's Arrest & (sort of) Related Topics

I did make some bad decisions in college. I didn't study enough. I drank beer every now and again. I had to re take some classes because my grades weren't up to snuff.

I even got in a fight every now and again.

I never was involved in selling drugs.

Crump,
I believe that they make the determination of whether or not you are selling based on the amount you are caught with.

Couple of things...

1. If they had a warrant for his arrest, they probably didn't catch him in the act and arrest him on the spot. They wouldn't need a warrant for that. It might be the result of an undercover police operation in which he (allegedly) sold marijuana to an informant or a police officer.

2. It is likely that he has been indicted already. That's usually how these things work. The police do an undercover operation, get the goods on as many people as they can without blowing their cover, present a bunch of cases to the grand jury, indict the suspects, and then issue warrants for their arrest.

Just an educated observation on my part.

You are exactly right. If it had just been a possession charge, it would only have been a minor misdemenor. But b/c it is trafficking, it is obviosly felony. And for there to be a warrant rather than a complaint, he has already been indicted by a grand jury.
Un-fucking-believable.

I am by no means an expert in dealing drugs, so this is just a guess:

Because he is being charged with "trafficking in drugs", I'm guessing they caught him actually selling, (probably to an undercover cop; since they had a warrent when they took him into custody). If they caught him with a large amount, I think they would have charged with "Possession with Intent to Distribute".

If these charges are true, drug trafficking is a serious crime imo. I would feel better if he was caught using rather than selling. If convicted, I think he is gone.

Doesn't make any since! He was an academic scholar with a FULL ACADEMIC Scholarship to NW. Add this to Irrizary who I believe was a national honor student and it just doesn't get more dissapointing for a "father figure" like JT is. Sad story.

Btw, F*** ESPN and whatever they say.

Not exactly. Ohio law says that for trafficking you must "sell or offer to sell." Which means even if you sell me peanuts, but say it is crack cocaine, you get charged for the crack.

If you have it individually packaged and/or it is more than enough for personal consumption...you can make a case for trafficking.

I still can't imagine why he would allegedly do this. I have my theories, and know a few guys who used to do that sort of thing, but their situations were different than those I perceive here. Oh well, I'll keep the speculation to myself.

grad, Maybe someone at OSU did know, but they were waiting to see if he was charged before they acted. They don't want to draw the negative ESPiN pub by suspending someone, even temporarily, if it turns out he didn't do anything.

And I'm sure ESPiN will have "breaking news" soon.

Why would the investigation take this long and how did tOSU not know it was going on?

Because if the police use an informant, they will buy from everyone they can, then file charges when they are finished. If they file the charges after they buy from each person, they have to give up (burn) the informant then they can't use him anymore.

If, as a previous poster said, this was part of a major bust based on info that was gathered over a period of time they could just be recording who did what and when. Then they drop the bomb on everyone at once.

If there are a bunch of folks involved it could well be that some were major players and others just happened into the view of the police while they were doing something relatively minor. Kind of thing that might have been ignored if not part of a larger bust.

Still not good.
